WALDOBORO, Maine — A second suspect has been apprehended in a case police said involved trading guns from the midcoast area for drugs in Massachusetts.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Harley Winchenbach, 19, of Cushing and Waldoboro, for conspiracy to violate drug laws and conspiracy to violate firearms laws, according to MDEA supervisor James Pease.

Winchenbach was found hiding in a home in Waldoboro, Pease said. He was arrested and taken to Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset.

Winchenbach also was charged with violation of probation, Pease said. Winchenbach was on probation after his arrest last year for trafficking heroin.

Earlier this month, Charles Dodge, 32, of Rockland, was charged with gun and drug conspiracy charges.

The investigation began when officers raided a room at the Hampton Inn in Thomaston last April, which led to the arrest of two New Bedford, Mass., men on drug trafficking charges.

Upon further investigation, the New Bedford Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allegedly began seizing from gang members in New Bedford guns that had come from Knox County.

Ten to 15 handguns and one submachine gun from midcoast Maine were recovered from gangs in New Bedford, Pease said. He said he does not believe any of the weapons were used in a violent crime.

Many of the guns had been stolen in burglaries in Knox County and the Waldoboro area, Pease said. Some of the guns were owned by the suspects, who were prohibited from having them because of prior felony convictions.

The two men arrested at the Thomaston hotel — Manny Sylvia, 28, and Angel Acevedo, 20, both of New Bedford — were sentenced last fall to 10 years in prison with all but four years suspended for trafficking in drugs.

  1. This is an example of yet more Constitutional trampling by the authorities.

The Second Amendment gives everyone the right to do with guns as they see fit:   the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

    Blame Obama, blame Obama!

    1. Dude i believe the that a felon not being able to possess a firearm happened way before Obama.  Police have been taking guns from gang members well before Obama as well.  Got to remember, when the constitution was written, one of the reason everyone was allowed to bear arms was for protection of your family, not to be out on the streets killing people for personal gains.

    2. gotta be one of the dumbest comments I have ever read, Believe  me  I am pro gun and anti Obama, but not allowing felons with guns and drug dealers with guns  is common sense  and has nothing to do with Obama

    3. You are kidding, right? I’m hoping this was an attempt at sarcasm and not that you really believe that…

    4. Your perspective is a bit flawed regarding this issue, if you are a felon you are not allowed to own a firearm.  It is a simple fact, and it is the law.  What would make more sense to point out is that, these people were criminals and obviously had no regard for firearms laws, and no amount of legislation would stop criminals from obtaining and using firearms.

    5. you repukes, always fingerpointing after you screw things up, guns everywhere here, do they give felons a gun when they leave prison?  No one enforces the law whatsoever.  I’ll bet you’re running around loose   :(

    1. Guess you haven’t been t0o Skowhegan, lol, what a dump and in the middle of nowhrere.   No wonder this state gets a D in education, you can’t even spell state names.  Sad

    2. I have been there, my wife is from there, it is not a bad place, fishing is one of the biggest industries, a lot like places in Maine. It is a bigger city and very close to Providence RI, which I am sure contributes to the crime. Armpit though, no, and most of the people are great. Unfortunately, the more the people, the more the criminals.

      1. Does your wife recall the disturbances  of the 1970s when large neighborhoods of New Bedford were roped off to prevent white people from going though because white people had been getting attacked on sight.  Then you have the 9 prostitutes killed by a serial killer. And the gang rape of a woman on a pool table while bystanders watch the victim scream.   Other than those minor items, i guess ‘B-fed’ is a nice place.

Those are just a couple of things about ‘B-fed’ that come to mind. Now if i google…

  2. “The two men arrested at the Thomaston hotel — Manny Sylvia, 28, and Angel Acevedo, 20, both of New Bedford — were sentenced last fall to 10 years in prison with all but four years suspended for trafficking in drugs”…

DUH, when will the legal system wake up? These and all the SCUMBAGS coming down the road are all the same!!!
