HAMPDEN, Maine — A Hampden man is facing charges of theft and forgery after police say he took some checks from his girlfriend’s mother’s house and cashed them.
Cody Reed, 18, had seen the checks at the home, took them and cashed them, Hampden Police Chief Joe Rogers said Monday.
Rogers said the checks, which totaled $255, were cashed on Thursday and Friday. Reed was arrested on Friday.
Reed is facing charges of Class D forgery and Class E theft, but because he “was in the house appropriately,” he avoided a more serious count of Class A burglary, Rogers said.
Reed was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, and has since been released on bail.
I see a break-up in his future.

lenses….what are they called? Oh wait.. yea… Video-Cameras! Are pointed at you you probably don’t want to Forge checks. Also I’m not a Banker or a Security Expert but I’m thinking they are gonna know that an 18 year old little boy isn’t an older FEMALE!!!!!!!!
All he had to do was sign her name on the back of the check. Then he signed his name and it looked like she had endorsed the check and turned it over for him. That is how he managed to cash the checks. I could steal your check made out in your name, fake your signature and then sign it myself and take it to your bank and if the money was in your account cash it and at the very least deposit it into my account.
Im assuming that he would have had to show his license or perhaps he had the same bank as the woman he stole from. And yes video cameras are what helped prove that this person stole and cashed the checks. Some banks also make you submit a fingerprint if you dont have an account there. People think that is a horrible thing but in fact it just another safety feature to prevent crimes like these.

still a few mom n pop stores out there that cash checks and dont have the security cameras. if these checks were from her mom’s account then he probly just wrote them out to cash or himself and forged her signature.
It was his girlfriend’s mom, not his.

The story does not speak of the three week old child the daughter and said boyfriend have and also the boyfriend did not purchase so much as a diaper for the newborn with the stolen checks/money…..
What is going on? Are these reports from the tabloids? This is stuff you can’t make up it’s so irrational. Is there sometning in the water, or air that causes these guys to act like this?
Maybe it’s parenting.
