ORONO, Maine — Chancellor Richard Pattenaude is attending his last University of Maine System trustees meeting as leader of the seven-university system.
Monday’s meeting at the flagship university’s campus in Orono will feature votes on new academic programs to meet work force demands as well as a new bachelor’s degree in tourism and hospitality.
Trustees will also consider tenure applications and a collective bargaining agreement.
Pattenaude, who has served since 2007, is retiring. Trustees last month approved his replacement, James Page, who’s CEO of James W. Sewall Co. in Old Town.

good riddence – academia is made up of people who are out of touch
Thank god this jerk is retiring He should have been fired for his “accomplishments” and had he worked in industry, his career would have been severely curtailed. Good riddance. Go haunt someone else’s house.
The Trustees who have apparently forced him out are not exactly models of executive or managerial talent. They are spending ever more lavishly on expensive consultants for problems they can’t even define and they always neglected the persons always on the payroll who might well do the same studies for free. They are largely ignorant of grass-roots issues and never visit classrooms or labs. Instead, they spent untold amounts of money on lavish meals and retreats. They haven’t a clue about the campuses they lord over. So while Pattenaude may not have been great, he was a heck of a lot better than those who pushed him out.
