AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage has signed a bill to give Maine an official state march.
“The Dirigo March” was written 51 years ago by Augusta native Leo Pepin, who is now 87. LePage signed the bill giving the march official status on Monday, after the House and Senate passed it unanimously.
Dirigo, Latin for “I lead,” is the Maine state motto. With the new law on the books, the score of “The Maine March” will be distributed to high school bands across the state, the bill’s sponsor, Augusta Republican Sen. Roger Katz tells the Kennebec Journal in Augusta.

“The Maine March” to poverty for dummies, by Gov. Paul LePage
You know what? I’m gonna give LePage a break today. Yep. I could do justice and joke about “I Lead” and marching off somewhere. But today I shall step aside and let other wits have at it.
Congratulations to Leo Pepin on having your march finally adopted as the state’s own!
It’s always nice to see the Legislature and governor doing such important and pressing work…
With this significant action tucked neatly under his belt, Governor LePage has marched off to Jamaica for a much needed(by his constituents) vacation.
Just what all the wing nuts need, a marching tune.
Is it Wagnerian ?
I searched for link to it.
There are none that I could find.
I’m glad only emergency legislation is being put through this legislative session.
Does this count as a job created?
Well someone has to photocopy the sheet music to distribute to high school bands…or at least scan it to PDF and forward to all the high schoolers’ smart phones.
Lepage Marches to the Koch Brothers!
This is exactly the kind of legislation the Governor should be restricted to. It will do no harm. It’s long been time to Turn LePage.
Gee, that’s going to bring a lot of jobs to Maine.
I’d like to give him a march.
