OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Two men have been arrested in connection with a string of arson fires in Old Orchard Beach.

The fires were reported in the early morning hours of February 28. The first was reported near some railroad tracks shortly before 4 a.m. Crews were later called to a local cafe that was damaged by fire. Other fires were put out in a trash can and between two cabins.

No one was hurt but the owner of the cafe says the fire at his place cost up to $50,000 in damage.

Police tell WCSH-TV that 22-year-old Thomas Tanner of Old Orchard Beach and 19-year-old Michael Gagne of Hollis are being held on $30,000 bail each on charges of arson and criminal trespassing for allegedly living in a hotel illegally.

  1. Judges rarely insult  the police or fire departments  with light sentences for arson. Tell your mothers how to spell Warren-one R, and by the way the zip code is 04864.

  2.  Arson on the beaches now?  Oh, this is good for tourism.   Bath salts, raging lunatics, and arsonists — not my idea of a vacationland exactly.
