BURNHAM, Maine — A man who allegedly held his family hostage and assaulted his wife early Monday morning has been arrested by police.
Shawn Sigston, 40, of Burnham reportedly threatened and terrorized his wife and three children in the family’s North Horseback Road home, according to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers received a report at 5 a.m. about a “domestic situation” and investigating officers determined that Sigston had held the family at the residence “for a period of time against their wishes,” the press release said.
Two of the children who were at home were 14 years old and the third child was 12.
Sigston was arrested and charged with domestic assault, domestic criminal threatening, domestic terrorizing and kidnapping. He was transferred Tuesday afternoon to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, according to Lt. Jason Trundy of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Bail was set at $4,000 cash or $40,000 surety, according to an official at the Waldo County Jail in Belfast.

He should be held in jail until his court date. Didn’t we go through this before where the whole family was murdered?
Hope it doesn’t turn into another Dexter situation. We need to protect Maine families better.
The Sheriff in San Fransisco was just busted for the same offense.
Be interesting to see if they treat this perp the same as they treated the Sheriff, eh?

Wow, even with video taped evidence? I feel sorry for his wife.
$4000.00 REALLY? Well done bail commissioners per usual……you people have to be the most inept, untrained and clueless pseudo professionals ever invented. Pffffffft.
When they release someone like this it should be into their custody. No exceptions. Then we’ll see just how many are released on bail. To keep these people locked up until the court dates violates no constitutional law. Too bad for the victims but this is Maine after all. Maine is definately open for criminal activity/business.
Again? Don’t these bail commissioners read the news? Didn’t they read the independent recommendations by national experts on how better to assess these situations?! Ridiculous.
He looks like he’s about to blow. Keep this person (I refuse to say man!) in jail and keep this family safe!
ooops, another cop goes down for the count for domestic abuse.
Maine taxpayers might want to distinguish between hiring people who can solve crimes for them and communities patrolling themselves based on the Restorative Justice model.

Concord cop charged with domestic abuse

(03-20) 13:21 PDT CONCORD
— A Concord police officer has been charged with domestic abuse and
false imprisonment in connection with an incident last month, a
prosecutor said today.
Officer Ameet Patel was arrested by San Ramon police Feb. 16. Contra
Costa County prosecutors charged him with corporal injury on a spouse or
cohabitant and false imprisonment, both felonies, said Deputy District
Attorney Rachel Piersig.
Please leave the Lake family alone enough with your ridiculous comments like this one.
The LAKE family is all DEAD thanks to Steven Lake…..FACTS are FACTS like them or not.
Winner winner chicken dinner !
when this kind of thing happens the person should be evaluated before being released then if something else should happen there is someone else to blame therefore it would be much harder to get released.. giving the family time to cope and reset, getting the story straight, knowing they will be safe would be a good start
Evaluated my butt. Why the evaluation? To see if he does something crazy? I think that that’s already been proven. Having someone else to blame after another tragedy does no good to the victims of said tragedy.
Please keep him there, we don’t need another Lake-esque tragedy (a la Dexter) in Waldo county.
Bail – are you kidding? Why so he can get out and kill his family like that guy in Dexter? When are the victims in this state going to ever get any protection?
Maybe what it’s going to take is people to start filing a writ of mandamus against the D.A.s who are not bothering to push for prosecution on some of these cases. That is their jobs – to provide protection for the people.
Victims have a Constitutional Right provided by the 14th Amendment, for equal protection. Or how about a class action suit against the State of Maine for failure to protect domestic violence victims? There’s enough evidence out there showing this.
