ORONO, Maine — Three Husson University students face assault charges after getting into a fight with members of Alpha Gamma Rho while attempting to get into the fraternity house just after midnight Friday.
“We were defending our house,” fraternity president Thomas Kennedy said Saturday. “A group of six, seven or eight were trying to get in” when the fight broke out just before midnight.
Alcohol was involved and the fight resulted in one UMaine fraternity member being treated for minor injuries, University of Maine spokesman Ron Lisnet said Saturday morning.
“The brother who got beat up is an Afghanistan [war] vet,” Kennedy said. “We had a total of seven brothers injured” but only the military veteran, who was alone when attacked by four people, needed medical attention.
The injured man has a “fist-size” black eye and rib injuries, Kennedy said.
Police were called to the fraternity house, located at 134 College Ave., at 12:02 a.m. Saturday.
“Officers responded to a report of six males trying to force their way into the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity,” he said. “Three of the males from the group of six were summoned for assault.”
Axel Lee, 20, of Norfolk, Va., and Bridgeport, Conn., residents Ernest Wiggins and Isaiah Flores, both 19, who all list Husson as their local address, were charged with assault.
Lee, who is out on bail, was arrested and charged with violating his bail conditions that bar him from consuming alcohol. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.
The other three men with Lee, Wiggins and Flores were not identified because they were not charged, and Lisnet was not sure if they were Husson students.
Two of the three Husson students charged at the Orono fraternity house — Lee and Flores — were charged in February for underage drinking on the Bangor campus. Lee, who smashed a wooden chair after hearing he would be charged, also was arrested for disorderly conduct during the Feb. 11 underage drinking party at a Husson dormitory, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said at the time.
Lee remained in jail at noontime Saturday, a jail official said.
The UMaine fraternity was holding a brothers and friends gathering on Friday night, Kennedy said, saying brothers monitoring the doors told the visitors they were not allowed in just before the fight broke out.
“It was a pretty traumatic experience,” Kennedy said.

Someone can’t handle their alcohol.
For being college students they ain’t none too smart!
Poor misunderstood young man.
I know. He’s totally a victim.
#1 rule for getting into a Frat party-bring double the girls with you than guys, so in this case they needed 6 girls to get in.
Husson football players….
Husson football players…. ?
I was wondering about how they could be going to college and still be so stupid. That … the culture of exceptionalism granted athletes … also addresses how they must have figured that are just entitled to crash a frat party, to treat it like it were a public bar, after midnight, too.
So what is Husson College going to do, now… given how much money they must have invested
in these … err, fellows.
The hypocritical pretenses that paid athletes are amateur athletes and scholars
is a filthy sick situation, all around, and all the parties involved all have dirty hands.
A little presumptious to say they’re football players, isn’t it?…it doesn’t say anywhere that they are. Ohhhh, right…he’s black (not sure if the other ones are, since they only printed one picture)…how silly of me! The term racial profiling comes to mind.
Unlike you I don’t limit myself to what is in the BDN. I simply looked online and found the roster. But I am glad to see that the RACE CARD is alive and well. DO your own homework before making accusations.!
Don’t expect liberals to let facts get in the way of their pet theories….
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m not a liberal!…guess I’m not the only one making “accusations” on here…
Nice work, i also looked at the roster since i have a couple of players living right next door and wanted to make sure they werent involved in this moronic behavior. Husson should set an example and send these guys packing but considering they have such a terrible football team and a state of the art stadium, it is very doubtful that will be the case.
At least the legal system saved some money, they already had his mug shot. I hope Husson doesn’t put him on double secret probation.
WHERE IS YOUR PLLLLLLEDGE PIN ? BULTARSKI !
I’m always torn between quotes from Animal House, Trading Places, and Seinfeld. Caddy Shack is also in the running.
I have a feeling we will be reading a lot more about this kid in the near future
Not if Husson kicks him out and he moves his loser self back to Norfolk.
Husson’s already had 2 incidents due to this cretin. How many does it take?
This is the second time. I remembered the name Axel Lee & lo and behold he and Isaiah were in the paper just last month.

Lookin’ good for Husson………Do you need a rap sheet to get in?
Husson – full of thugs from out of state, still can’t field a decent football team. For shame.
Losing 0-70 on the field, but 3 arrests… not bad. That’s a field goal of arrests… maybe since there were 6 of them, they can go for a touchdown!
Umaine is like that too. Full of thugs from out of state. Massholes with terrible attitudes and alcohol problems.
A reference from “Al Capone State” helps
Will they get the boot out of college? Hope so. My kid goes there. This guy looks like he has the potential for some serious anger issues.
Your kid wants to transfer next year. UMaine has better parties.
its a mug shot, hes not supposed to look happy.
Alpha Gamma Rho? Is that the agricultural fraternity? Didn’t realize they had parties that would attract anyone other than people they knew.
Cows?
I think its the new rap based frat ! Whats happin Rho ?
Way to go Axel. You are suppose to be learning something useful, not how to get jailed in two easy lessons.
profiling
Your point?
I think that was sarcasm.
No, just calling a card a card.
Boot his A dbl S out of Husson and send him packin back to CT where he can waste his own’s tax payers dollars! Clearly he is not interested in is education.
ALCOHOL was involved ! SAY WHAT ? thats hard to believe ! LOUIE LOU EYE , whoa baby ! we got to go . DO DO….. DO DO DO !
I didn’t realize till now that Husson has a educational program where you study to be societies next Thug. Way to go Husson with their Thug program. Is that a BS Degree or a BA Degree?
Obviously a B.A. for Bad @$$ery
Husson for some reason has a lot of thugs. Not a good perception of that University.
Maine is a much better school (and has better parties).
having good partes is not a good reason to call Umanie a good school. cause they do just as much as worse whit
I didn’t say that. I said that Maine is a much better university overall.
…and UMaine has absolutely NO “thugs”…at all! This is a proven fact…all those stories about rapes, stabbings, etc., in the news are all fabricated and full of lies! How dare they print such trash about the “golden school”!
I know facts are troubling things… but UMaine has 12,000 students, and as much as 50% of the reported incidents involve NON-UMaine students like these Husson Not-So-Braves. Husson has barely 3,000, and that’s counting everyone who works there, NESCom, Bangor Theological, and the kitchen staff. Yet, Husson has just as many incidents as does UMaine. Plus, Husson is private, so they can keep much of it on the q.t. UMaine is public, and reports *everything*.
.
You sure have issues, don’t you.
Whoa, no need for personal insults, Mr. David. I feel pretty issue-free for the most part…just stating an opinion, like everyone else on here. You seem to think you know me…first I’m a Liberal, now I have issues. Maybe you should stick to your fact-finding missions and save your judgements of people…you’re not very good at it.
nothing like “affirmative action”…
However. 6 husson female students would have gotten the red carpet treatment, I’ll bet.
what i dont understand is how all of you people are up here talking about how terrible of a school husson is, and Umaine has kids stabbing other students. stabbing someone is attemted murder, these guys are being charged for assault and just a couple of days ago. 5!!! Umaine students got charged for underaged drinking. so all of you people stop being pissy and ignorant.
Thank you for voicing exactly what I was thinking! Condemning Husson for the actions of a few (especially considering you’re going to have a few bad apples at any school), when UMaine has had way more incidents in the past…and for much more serious offenses. Although I’m not condoning what these students did, it does seem like it’s a case of…drinking too much + frat parties + testosterone + school rivalry = hellooooh!…fights! It isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last.
The only stabbing I’m aware of is the unfortunate Husson nursing student who was stabbed to death on the sidewalk in front of the Commons last spring. On Husson’s campus.

Thought I recognized a couple of names….
to axel lee, two letters for you: A A
Don’t think he has a drinking problem, think it’s more like a Thug problem. He’ll Blame everyone except himself when he gets kicked out or jail time.
and thats not a drinking problem?
Shug my shoulders, don’t know. Just think it’s a bigger problem for all of us.

We all know what’s been going on: Husson and other colleges have been bringing punks like these three up to Maine for campus “diversity” or to play sports. And they get tons of scholarship money to come (money that could be going to deserving MAINE kids). They are then allowed to run amok with their out-of-state “lifestyles”, and the colleges have no interest in even lifting a finger. Because that wouldn’t be “sensitive”, “understanding” or “tolerant”.
Sheeeesh.
I agree, “illegalsout”. The problem seems to rest in the colleges not doing much about these types of incidents other than to allow the process of law and the local authorities handle the messes created by ever-growing punks of all color, nationality and cultures. The colleges prefer to placate the parents who, by the way if nobody was looking, pay high tuition costs or oftentimes, the US taxpayer pays the tuition through special tuition assistance programs. Colleges simply pay attention to their accounts receivables. So, it bites me the wrong way to see universities not using their legal counsel/s to press charges in cases such as reflected in the BDN report. This would include trespassing onto private University of Maine property, trespassing into a sanctioned UMO fraternity house without authorization, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, possession of alcohol in the system of the attackers, premeditation of a crime and other charges. Maybe once Universities get the freaking message, they can do something to control the problems and their own students for a change. On the other hand, those who break the law like these Husson students did, automatically discharge them from the university if and when certain legal and police charges have been levied.
Boys will be boys…
Boys being the operative word.
After reading 43 comments below it’s easy to see that some things were missed. First of all Mr. Lee was charged , not convicted. I also noticed that of three persons charged BDN has chosen to only post one picture. What’s up with that ? Racial profiling comes to mind. Perhaps these colleges will consider inviting guest speakers from AA to speak occasionally.
I wouldn’t be so quick to assume profiling.
From Axel’s facebook friends I found Isaiah and two Wiggins (I think Ernest probably prefers Ray Ray) They are all African-American. ;)
Really? So WTF exactly caused this poor Husson “student” to end up after midnight at an ORONO fraternity house, eh? Got an explanation for that one? Are you suggesting he was kidnapped and forced to drink underage liquor against his will? If he’s such a boy scout, why wasn’t he already in his dorm safe at Husson, following the supposed athletics curfew of home-by-midnight? Husson athletics is out of control. There’s your answer.
If Husson doesnt kick all of these students that were involved in this incident out of the university, shame on them. Make room for the kids that actually WANT to better their lives with a college degree.
These same 3 Husson “students” have already been involved in *2* previous incidents that led to arrests. How many arrests does it take for an expulsion???
Dear BDN: Call them college attendees if you will, but do not call them students.
It is all about bringing in money for the colleges: sports above academics.
Punk :-/
Theres always Job Corp!
I’m telling you I don’t know who handles the recruiting but they really need to look at these winners they have in the athletic department over there.
Where are Jesus’ ventriloquists– Sharpton, J. Jackson, and Obumma when you need ’em? Husson desperately needs to import more of these downtown Bridgeport “students”. Diversity, my …!!!
Why don’t they just shut down the Frat houses, all they are is trouble and fighting, drinking and drugging. Why don’t they just ban them because they are supposed to be going to college for an education not for partying? If they want to party then go to a bar. There are always minors drinking at these frat houses and the police rarely do anything if a party is going on at a frat house, unless there is a disturbance. They are too busy checking the dorms out for a few kids that might be smoking a little pot or having a beer but they turn a blind eye to what goes on at frat houses.
This may be off topic but recently I’ve passed through Husson College on foot and the students there drive like crazy people. I nearly got hit twice by speeders and people cutting corners so close they drive up onto the edge of the sidewalk. A friend of mine and I were hiking at one of the entrances to Husson and a driver sped out of the entrance and spun the car wheels. The car was close enough to us that if it had skidded off the road it might of hit us. I know this is a bit off topic but if their driving is another indication of the personality types at Husson it doesn’t look like a place I wish to visit again.
“The brother who got beat up is an Afghanistan [war] vet,” Kennedy said. “We had a total of seven brothers injured”
Say what yo???
Second time in two months for both Lee and Flores. They must be BFF’s…LOL Maybe they can get a cell together.
How can all of you make such disgusting comments about the whole football team? this incident involved 1 to maybe 6 players. The team has at least 60 players and there are people ragging about how the whole team consists of thugs or the whole school of 2- 3 thousand consists of thugs. C’mon people, don’t prejudge people so easily. These people obviously make poor choices, but that doesn’t give you the right to say that everyone else at Husson does.
