BANGOR, Maine — Someone flagged down a police officer and others were yelling and screaming for help Sunday night as an Ellsworth man beat a woman in his SUV, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday morning.

“Officer [Taylor] Bagley ran to the SUV and observed a male assaulting a female passenger with an infant child also inside,” the sergeant said. “Officer Bagley reported that he had to physically pull the suspect from the truck and briefly struggled with the man before finally arresting him.”

Reynold Valcourt, 29, of Ellsworth was charged at around 9 p.m. with domestic assault, domestic terrorizing, domestic reckless conduct and refusing to submit to arrest. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

The 27-year-old woman suffered minor injuries but did not need medical attention. The infant child, who was in a car seat, was not injured.

The woman said she picked up Valcourt and a verbal, then physical, argument took place as they drove through Brewer, according to Edwards.

“As she drove, Valcourt threatened her, attempted to steer the car into oncoming traffic while crossing over the bridge, and assaulted her,” the sergeant said.

Valcourt remained in jail Monday morning. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. I know the article fails to say why she picked him up, but I sure am curious.
What was bail set at? $50

    1.  I was wondering the same thing? Did she even know this guy and what the heck is she picking up this guy for in the first place. And with a small child!!!!

  2. WHAT? it was his suv. he was driving, then later it says she was driving, but she picked him up? and his suv had a car seat in it for her child?

  3. The article says it was his SUV. I remember police keeping an eye out for a man of his description in an SUV last year for attempting to pick up children who were walking in Bar Harbor. Just wondering if this could be the same guy.

    1.  Well, the story – even absent the details – has certainly given the peanut gallery a place to vent this morning!!   Racism is alive and well here in Maine.  I bet all the folks commenting have college degrees and are world travelers.

      1. I am curious as to why everyone posting on these stories have to be from Maine?  I’m not saying that racism doesn’t exist in Maine, but this IS the world wide web.  Also, I hope that you do not give transplants ‘Mainer’ status…that is just sooo not right.  I live in a very small community and yes racism does exist here in the 98% white state.  I am appalled by what I have heard my daughter telling me what kids said shortly after Obama was elected.  Disgusting all the way around.

        1. Belowmymeans that is because you were brought up to believe you are just as good as not better than or worse than. Today’s children may not have picked up on this as they grew up because parents are no longer present while kids are growing up and few make any attempt at raising them anymore. It’s too much work I guess. Looking at the comments made here I would even venture to say some of these people were likely in charge of their own upbringing too. Funny I worked and came home every night to a good ole dose of kids who needed raising and I managed just fine but you know lord almighty it’s very difficult to get up off that couch and do some disciplining these days or away from that computer to even notice you do have kids. I bet none of these self raised people even recognise when they lose their cool and hurt someone they love because only black people do that. Yikes I got to stop the sarcasm I’m exuding is choking me.

  4. I have never seen anything as disgusting as the comments made here today. These are not Mainer comments these comments made by obsolete Americans who have no compassion. Mainers have more to their characters than what you people have given here. Do some digging and see if you can come up withy something unique, different than what Americans are generically spouting these days because the one thing that has always saved Maine from destruction was it’s people’s willingness to stand together. A young lady was assaulted here and her baby was in the vehicle where it took place as they crossed a busy bridge. I sure hope you people have more character than what you have shown here. Leave the hateful rhetoric to the rest of the country they are doing quite well accomplishing that. They don’t need your snarky help.

  5. Funny.  There used to be A LOT more comments on this article.  Or was that the Portland Press Herald?
