BRUNSWICK, Maine — Independent Senate candidate Angus King has named a Democrat and a Republican to key positions on his campaign.
King announced Monday that former Democratic state lawmaker Marge Kilkelly will serve as policy director and Republican strategist Edie Smith will serve as political and field director.
King has cast himself as the candidate who can bring the two parties together.
In a statement, Smith said “partisan politics have gone to extremes at a time when most Americans are in the middle” and Kilkelly called King “the right person, at the right time.”
Six Republicans and four Democrats are vying to the opportunity to be on the ballot. There are at least two other independents in the race.
We don’t need you Angus..we want new blood…
He needs to make sure Washington continues to subsidize his windmill business.
We need to show him at the polls!

Nope, as Calvin Coolidge once said, “Don’t expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong.” How many poor business owners do you know that hire employes and help the economy? Your answer should be none. So, if you liberals win back the senate, and the house, I believe America is in for a depression like we have never seen. Might I add that Obama’s latest budget proposal will at 9 trillion to the deficit. Ya, he is one bright boy.

He’s about as independent as my left pinky. It means nothing in Maine to declare as an independent. Are you kidding? He was a democrat before, and he’ll caucus with the dems time and again as an independent.

This man has had his chance and left Maine in a mess. He did not fix the problems when he was in office and did not save for a rainy day during the good times. We do not need more of the same from Angus King. Let’s get some new blood who can turn things around for this state.

When he announced that he backs Obama, he lost at least 4 votes that I know and I would suspect many many more. Thought you were a lot smarter than this Angus!

Mr. King is trying to have the best of both worlds. We need more focused reporting to find out where this guy stands on current national issues such as the ACA, Afghan war, and possible solutions to national unemployment. The only reason Mr. King is remembered fondly is because he was lucky enough to be riding a wave of comparative national economic prosperity.
Lets vote in someone new, we don’t need anymore of these has beens that have done nothing for the state all they want is the money that comes with the job. Give the job to someone that needs it.
I love it! He picks a Democrat to direct policy (SMART) and a Republican to find/buy/steal votes(SMART). The best of both worlds for any politician. Now why are we going to elect him? Because we don’t trust the Ds or the Rs? Before voting for Mr. King as most of us will, please consider what and who these two political parties stand for then vote accordingly. Honestly, it seems like he’s (Like anyone pretending to be politically “Independent”) the most manipulative one in the bunch from either side. Will I vote for him? Reluctantly…maybe. Unlike some in the race, at least we know he ain’t crazy. And as a politician, being manipulative can be a good thing. I just find it distasteful when manipulation involves voters.
When somebody can energize a crowd with electrifying speeches and get the electorate charged it will be a new day. But until then, it will be as it always has politics as usual.
