FARMINGTON, Maine — An eighth-grade student from York has won the National Geographic Bee for Maine for the second straight year.
Fourteen-year-old Benjamin Maclean topped 100 students from around the state during Friday’s competition at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Archer Thomas, a seventh-grader from Buxton, came in second place.
The Sun Journal reports that Maclean will represent Maine in the national geography bee held in May at the National Geographic Society’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Does anyone have any information on the Maine Geography Bee? Where can we sign up for next year’s? etc.
Well done. Nice to know that not all of the young people today are not scared to study and be better at something that does not include drugs, theft, shooting up the school or bullying as more bad is published in the news than achievements . Congratulations Benjamin and best of luck in the Nationals. Your parents are the proudest of you I am sure and encourage you to have a well rounded life. So go get em and be proud.
Congratulations, Ben!
“You’ll know where you are going in life when you get there,”…not this kid- he’ll know before he arrives. Great job!
