BOSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say 145 of the more than 3,100 arrests of illegal immigrants in a nationwide sweep were made in New England.

The six-day sweep, announced Monday, targeted immigrants who were illegally in the country and who were convicted of serious crimes or otherwise considered fugitives or threats to national security. In New England, 55 of those arrested had multiple criminal convictions.

Officials say Massachusetts had 70 arrests, followed by 32 in Connecticut, 24 in New Hampshire and 13 in Rhode Island. There were three apiece in Maine and Vermont.

Dorothy Herrera-Niles, field office director of enforcement and removal operations, says 50 of those arrested in New England previously were ordered out of the country, and 12 others had illegally re-entered the U.S.

  1.  Didn’t Lepage say Maine was a welfare magnet for these people?  I guess he was lying about that to.

    1. Couldn’t find that quote, could you find it for me.  I do remember Maine being a magnet for illegals coming to Maine to get their licenses and our last Secretary of State (who’s now running for Senate) had no problem with it.

      1. Actually it was Dunlap who overruled Baldacci’s “Sanctury State” status and made Maine’s driver’s license an identity card.  I do not approve of that action, but he did it.  He linked the Maine license to social security numbers, checked them through e-verify, took away the ability to use a post office box as an address, and forced people to show rent receipts or utility bills to prove they lived where they claimed to live.

If this makes you happy vote for Matt.  if not, what was your post about again?

    2. In case you didn’t notice, this only targeted criminals and fugitives of “serious crimes.”

  2. Three of them came to Maine, probably for the welfare and I’ll be they voted too!  penguin and Charlie were right on the money.  Even the stinking feds had no choice but to validate their insightful appreciation of the situation..

  3. Wow, our hero, New Hampshire, had the 3rd highest! And Maine had 3. well, that’s more than the voter fraud investigation found.

    1. Maine had a huge “sweep” this summer in several Mexican and Chinese restaurants……hence the low number this time??

          1. Stray cats don’t take American Citizens jobs.  They work  for Cash, slave wages and avoid paying taxes.

      1. They should recheck the Chinese and Mexican restaurants in Maine again. They have been restocked.

          1. Entering the USA without documentation is a criminal offense.  You can no longer be jailed for a civil offense.

          2. You right, what i was reading was most times a Federal judge assigns a civil fine for first offense with the intent that subject will appear for deportation hearing.

  4. These were illegals that were convicted of “serious crimes”. Just being in the U.S. isn’t considered a serious crime. Quit drooling

  5. How will LePage be able to keep Maine’s minimum wage far below poverty level if they keep throwing out the illegals ?

  6.  they missed one…he’s in the white house…let’s see him prove he’s an American please…he’s a fraud…we’ve been duped….

    1. …they also missed his gang of misfit relatives living in the boston area, collecting welfare and driving drunk repeatedly…

  7. INS and ICE try Milbridge Maine hundreds of Illegals Criminal Aliens there. Start on Wyman Rd and the fish factories.

  8.  I thought immigrants entered a country legaly following that countries laws. If they break in through the back door they are illegal aliens.
