STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — A local man accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl on several occasions over the last year was arrested Monday by investigators from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Colan Ginn, 35, is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset with his bail set at $25,000 cash or $250,000 surety.
According to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton, police spoke with Ginn after receiving a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
He “lawyered up,” Trafton said, and refused to talk to police about the allegations that he had sexually assaulted a relative.
The teenager told police that the assaults had happened several times over the last year but couldn’t remember the specific dates they had occurred.
Ginn has been charged with three counts of gross sexual assault, a Class A charge, and three counts of unlawful sexual contact, a Class C charge.
Class A felonies are punishable by up to 40 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
If he is guilty 40 years sounds about right. Most likely he will not get the time one gets for watching child porn.
Sad but true David..Though usually child porn involves the Fed as it crosses state lines thus the longer sentences…Here in Maine it’s not a big deal as long as they are put on a “list” that keeps us safe…Sarcasm intended…He won’t do 2 years and if he can’t make bail and he is in jail that long before trail it will be time served…
Based on other similar cases recently reported in Maine, the last line of the article should read:
“If convicted of these Class A felonies, Mr. Ginn can expect up to 40 days in prison and a $50 fine.”
If that…too bad they didn’t find some pot growing in his basement.
If he was friends with Glen Ross he could have gone and visited the victim and gone for a swim and skip prison completely.
Though I do realize you are exaggerating I couldn’t agree more with your point. It’s always initially shocking and then sad to read about these sorts of things. You are correct in your point of view, sterner sentences would prevent these sort of things from happening as frequently but the true core of the issue remains in the psychology of these individuals.
Simply increasing the odds against the player will not keep them all from gambling.

I seem to remember when a lady sexually abusing a 14 year old boy, and a total different attitude of comments like come on he just got himself some cougar action, funny how things are different when its a girl vs boy in the same situation.
Even South Park made a huge joke about how much of a double standard it is and sadly, it is true. When Stan reported it to the police and they learned it was a male student they said….

Compare this case to that of FBI Supervisor Edward Rodgers who started having sex with his three daughters starting when thry were 2 years old until they were 17 years old.
Rodgers was never tried for the charges of pedophilia.

Sisters win sex lawsuit vs. dad $2.3 million given for years of abuse

Two daughters of former state and federal law enforcement official Edward Rodgers were awarded $2.319,400 yesterday, after a Denver judge and jury found that the women suffered years of abuse at the hands of their father.

Jed, I agree. That same thought was running through my head too. If the news article involved a boy and an older woman, the boy would be deemed lucky. Why, then, wouldn’t a 14 yr. old girl be deemed lucky too?
BECAUSE in case you hadn’t noticed, boys do not get pregnant. I am all for “equality” between the genders, but suggesting they are the same is ludicrous.

I do hope you do not believe everyone thinks it’s ok for a boy to be sexually abused by an older woman. I would absolutely do something stupid to the perpertrator of such a crime on my 12 year old grandson. Sexual abuse is absolutely nothing to laugh about.
No I do not think it is ok, but it should be convicted the same way in public as well as court, and I do not think it is anything to laugh about.
I am opposed to sexual abuse regardless of gender, but in the real world a male child is not as traumatized by sexual interaction with an opposite gender adult as a female child is. There is a biological reason for this disparity, and that is that the boy has no hymen and he has no chance of becoming pregnant.
Well then what if the male child is abused by the same gender? this is abuse and should be equally treated as such.
Ya, I think they are as traumatized.
Just think, if he was from Mexico, we would just throw him out of the country, no trial, no jail time, just the boot. He would be back in the country before the poor kid get their first mental health visit!
I wonder how one proves guilt in a case such as this. Can a person be convicted without evidence just on the word of a child (or an adult)? I’m not taking sides here, not at all, but you’ve got to wonder. Many years ago my daughter told me about a classmate who, angry about being disciplined, threatened her stepfather with similar charges. It was a total set up and fortunately the mother was able to elicit the truth from her daughter before formal charges were made. Meanwhile it was a very trying time for the victim, the stepfather, and the whole family. Quite sad actually. Of course there are many legitimate cases of sexual abuse and I’m not minimizing the horrific trauma of such events. But really, how does one prove this without evidence of the crime?
There is a case pending in Down East Maine right now, where a 46 Year Old WOMAN has sexually Abused a 14 year old BOY> She has been out on her OWN RECOGNENCES (sp?) ie NO BAIL MONEY AT ALL!!! for probably a year now! WTH??? AND they are ONLY talking maybe 6 months.! This guy, already in the slammer with a $25,000.00 bail on his head!! What makes is soooo different if it was a boy or girl that was assaulted? I figure they BOTH should be behind bars, and throw away the keys!!!!!!!!
