PRESQUE ISLE and HOULTON – Jeannette Whitten, 91, died March 30, 2012, at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Dec. 31, 1920, in Houlton, daughter of Ralph and Rebecca (Estabrook) Berry.

Jeannette was a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono, where she was a member of Tri Delta sorority. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women; Pyerian Club, Presque Isle; and actively involved in Presque Isle and Houlton community golf courses. She attended the Congregational church in Houlton and Presque Isle. Jeannette was married to the love of her life, M. Harvard Whitten. Together they enjoyed golfing, snow sledding, canoeing and fishing. Their good times at Carr Pond and at the camp on Long Lake were especially precious memories for her. Jeannette was known for her quick wit and her dry sense of humor, which brightened the days of those around her. As a creative and dedicated third grade teacher at Zippel School, Presque Isle, she touched the lives of many. In her own words, “I have had a wonderful life.”

Jeannette is survived by her daughter, Jane Ktorides of Athens, Greece, and Presque Isle; two grandchildren, Nicholas Ktorides of New York City and Elizabeth Ktorides of Athens, Greece; and one great-grandson, Matthew Ktorides of New York City. She was predeceased by her husband, M. Harvard Whitten. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of Presque Isle Nursing Home for their kind and loving care during the past two years.
