BANGOR, Maine — A Milford man who refused to cooperate when repeatedly asked to leave a local nightclub was ultimately arrested and later found to have a concealed weapon, according to police.
Officers working a security detail at Barnaby’s on Odlin Road in the early-morning hours of March 29 were dealing with another patron when Seth Hopkins, 21, intervened, Bangor police Sgt. Chip Hodges said.
“This fella decided to [involve] himself in the conversation,” Hodges said. “He was told a number of times to just leave.”
Sgt. Brad Johnston and Officer Dave Bushey were working security detail at the club that evening, and when they repeatedly told Hopkins to leave just after 12:30 a.m., he kept raising his voice.
“This guy was given a number of warnings,” Hodges said.
The officers’ patience finally wore off, and they arrested Hopkins and charged him with refusing to submit to arrest, as well as criminal trespass for refusing to leave the club, according to Hodges.
When the officers searched Hopkins, they found a collapsible baton in his possession, bringing a concealed weapons charge.
Hopkins was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail. He faces up to a year in jail on the refusal to submit to arrest and concealed weapons charges, and up to six months on the criminal trespass count.

do you suppose alcohol was involved? here is a question, can you get a permit for a concealed weapon that is not a firearm?? what is really considered to be a concealed “weapon” a lot of things people carry in there pocket could be a “weapon” obviously the baton is a bit much but just wondering??
The old permits used to say concealed weapons but my latest permit specifies concealed handgun. I don’t know if there are any different concealed carry permits.
“Resident Permit To Carry Concealed Firearms” is what the permit says.
Mine says “Resident Permit To Carry Concealed Handgun”……
Sorry Jed but your wrong. I just received my new permit and it reads “Resident Permit To Carry Concealed Handgun”
You are right, anything can be a weapon, so on that note, as long as its is not used as a weapon, it should be fine, right?
Where can I get a weapons list???
On that note, how about a crow bar hidden but in a place one can grab quickly, since it’s intent is to be available in an emergency for self defense is that now considered a concealed weapon? I know someone who does that…. Isn’t that what guns are for?
Who refuses to leave Barnaby’s? I’d be happy to leave.
Good, that will make room for me and my buddies that are standing in line waiting to get in.
As a former bouncer, I would advise people that go to clubs to leave when asked! The door staff can and will remove you quite forcefully if necessary. In my 15 years, I NEVER saw people that fought with or even disobeyed the police officers ending well for them. The cops have batons of their own : )
