ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Bucksport man was sentenced to two years in jail this week after pleading guilty to sexually molesting a young girl.

Adam J. Scott, 28, was arrested in November 2010 after he reportedly was seen molesting a girl who was under age 12 at the time. On Tuesday, a judge in Hancock County Superior Court sentenced Scott to six years in prison with all but two years suspended after he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual contact, a Class B offense with a maximum penalty of 10 years.

Assault charges stemming from the November 2010 incident were dropped because Scott pleaded guilty to the first charge.

After release from jail in two years, Scott will be on probation for eight years, during which he will be prohibited from having any contact with his victim and her family as well as with children under age 16 except when incidental to his employment.

      1.  “fall into the victim mentality”? WOW. You win my Most Ignorant Comment of the Week Award. Congrats. The suffering that a sexual abuse victim endures is not a weakness or a “mentality” that one “falls” into. Incredibly naive comment.

        1. . I’m not suggesting that women don’t feel violated when raped or abused. What I am suggesting is that their life doesn’t have to be over! There doesn’t need to be a lifetime of pain. The poor me I’m a victim approach doesn’t help women move forward. It IS a frame of mind. The more you and others tell women how to feel, the longer it will take for them to put it behind them and live life to their fullest. Don’t enable women to view themselves as victims.

  1. The Brownville mother who let kids drink got 5 years and compared to a child molester . This guy who is one gets off with 2 years.  I see no justice In the system…………………………………

    1. How long do you think he will last down at Warren. One year maybe. They will show him the ropes in the boiler room I would bet.

  2. 2 years for sexually molesting a girl under the age of 12? Notice the name of the judge was omitted. And we wonder why sexual predators are so numerous in Maine.

Keep in mind we pay this anonymous judge a 6 figure salary and give him/her a lifetime appointment with a pension, to slap the wrist of a predator and allow this animal to once again prey on our kids in 2 years. Nice work, “Judge”.

  3. this is one of the most tolerant states- perhaps that is why we attract so many child molesters & sex perverts. They are arrested & the courts give them reduced sentences & things like parole. Same goes for domestic violence perverts.. there needs to be ZERO tolerance  for these things & stricter sentences….2 years will pass quickly for him- for his victim…it will take far more than 2 years for her to get over what he did.. I wonder how that judge, or the  DA, would feel if this was their daughter?
