PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The first of a series of nine public forums featuring the six republican candidates for the U.S. Senate being vacated by Sen. Olympia Snowe kicks off Thursday, April 5 in Presque Isle.
The Maine Republican Party and GOPforME are hosting the GOPforME Forum, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center.
Hayes Gahagan, chairman of the Aroostook County Republican Committee, said the forum will allow County residents to ask questions and learn more about the candidates.
Senate candidates running in the June 12 GOP primary are former State Sen. Rick Bennett, small businessman Scott D’Amboise, state Sen. Debra Plowman, state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Maine Attorney General William Schneider and Maine Secretary of State Charlie Summers.
The remaining forums will be held around the state through Saturday, May 19. For the complete list of times, dates and locations, visit gopforme.com.
The forums are free and open to anyone, regardless of political party affiliation.
Gahagan said he believes Aroostook County Republicans have been generating a lot of activity and enthusiasm this campaign cycle.
Four candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination: former Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, State Sen. Cynthia Dill, State Rep. Jon Hinck and Portland home builder Benjamin Pollard.
Independent candidate Angus King, a former two-term governor, also is in the race.

We need a good one to knock down the tax and spenders.
Hmm, more than a few are of the “Cajones ‘R Us’ crowd…blighted reputations, but plenty of gall. Don’t know how they dare show their faces in public. Apparently they think all Mainers are stupid or have lousy memories.
Boy ! I remember the old days when I could support many a Republican for office and hold my head high ! I guess those days are over for now.
On the contrary. Bennett, Schneider, and Summers are top drawer candidates, a good break from the past when the GOP lacked much of a bench.
Unfortunatly all three have moved too far right on fiscal policy to be taken seriously. Not much difference between them and LePage.
Ok boys … here’s the plan:
First make sure you publicly disagree with everything the Dem’s want to do even if it makes sense and saves money. Next, just make stuff up and never explain any details. Make sure you give all revenue to the fat cats. Constantly create division where there isn’t any, lie about everything, even the truth. Give phrases and words the exact opposite meaning. Put weapons in the hands of those who are mentally incapable of understanding the meaning of deadly force. Never under any circumstances admit you’re wrong. Last but not least make damn sure you create no jobs and smile even though you’re completely clueless, it will guarantee success.
When have the dems. ever had an idea that saves money??? I agree the rest of your strategy has worked for the dems.
Just face it ….. The Republican clown circus is goin’ down
in a historical landslide. This country has had its fill of the rightwing gruel
being served up by the corporate water boys who are beholding to their masters
at ALEC. Voter suppression is your only chance, and we all know how “extremely” hard you’re working at that.
Is that your best response? No answer to the question? I”ll try again. When have the dems. ever had an idea that saves money? Hopefully you have the need for name calling out of your system and can offer a real answer.
Bubba balanced things pretty well now didn’t he before your crew tried to hang him …. it still changes nothing. You forget we’ve tried all this Republican nonsense which has brought us the mess we currently have. It will be many life times’ till we forgive or forget the blatant damage done by that pseudo cowboy from Texas, we’re still scraping the road apples from our shoes that he left behind, and will continue doing so for many years. That’s as real as it gets.
Right out of that dem playbook you have, blame the others for the same things you are doing, long enough so that everyone thinks its true.
Ah nuts, I hope I didn’t give their strategy away?
Futures tip of the day: invest in brown shirts.
can not give it away when its all the dems ever do is blame everyone else.
Bow down and kiss the toe of Big Oil while continuing to give then hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies.
I would love to hear the answer to the following– Would you be willing to sponsor or co-sponsor a bill limiting the amount of money allowed to be given to each candidate and reports by the candidate
must be filed within 48 hours as to how much given and by whom? Plus no pacs or super-pacs are to be allowed. This bill must be brought to the floor and voted on with no add-ons and should be an up or down vote.
I don’t know about anybody else but I am getting sick of the corporations and rich people buying our government.
Years ago, Hayes Gahagan, Chairman of Aroostook County Republicans, encountered a bump in the road during his political life. Does anyone remember the details surrounding this Caribouer’s antics?
Lol . . . it had to do with Subliminal Messages . . .in the late 80’s it was in my Poltical Science textbook on how not to run a campaign . . . check out his 60 million dollar federally funded boondoggle at the prior Loring AFB . . . is it generating any energy . . . nope . . . in fact, I believe it is another Solyndra.
Violet Long story short:He lined his pockets and boogied. AM I close? Subject: [bdn] Re: First forum for Republican U.S. Senate candidates Thursday in Presque Isle
