BANGOR – Helen G. (Williams) Huggins, 94, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at her home. Helen was born Sept. 19, 1917, in Embden, daughter of Chester K. and Gladys (Williamson) Williams.
Helen was a graduate of the school of nursing at Central Maine General Hospital, Lewiston. She entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in September 1942, and served as assistant chief nurse of the 67th General Hospital, stationed in England for three years. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in December 1945 with the rank of captain. Helen also worked as a school nurse in Oakland and as a public health nurse for the state of Maine in Bangor. Helen was married to Norman Huggins of Concord, in 1946.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1989; and son, Robert S. Huggins, in 1947. She is survived by her children, Kathy H. Sutton of Roxbury, Kerry H. Curtis and Kendall N. Huggins, both of Bangor; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sister, Bertha Whitney of Solon; and brother, Robert Berry of Embden.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham. A graveside service with military honor will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Bingham Village Cemetery, Route 201, Bingham. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to your local hospice care.
