WALDO – Richard C. Thompson Sr., 71, passed away April 2, 2012, in Nobleton, Fla. He was born June 30, 1940, in Searsport, to William and Ellen (Whitcomb) Thompson.
He was married Aug. 16, 1957, to Mary Geneva Littlefield. He enjoyed old stock car racing on the dirt track in Unity in the 1960s. He most recently enjoyed woodworking and building lighthouses for his children. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for construction most of his life. Richard owned and operated Thompson’s Variety Store, from 1978 to 1984, and started Thompson’s Oil Co. with his sons in 1989, retiring in 1999.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Jim; one grandson, Travis; and a granddaughter, Allie. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mary Geneva (Littlefield) Thompson of Waldo; his beloved children, Richard Jr. and wife, Izzy, of Brooks, D. Amy Knowlton and husband, Mike, of Greenville, David and wife, Ginny, of Waldo, Darlene Clark and husband, Butch, of Knox, Charles and wife, Beth, of Waldo, Dianne Small-Trull and husband, Todd, of Massachusetts and Virgil and wife, Jennifer, of Waldo; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one uncle, Donald Thompson.
Friends and family are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Morrill Baptist Church.
