BANGOR, Maine — The Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine’s “Justice for Trayvon” rally drew 30 people on Friday, according to Ilze Petersons, the justice center’s program coordinator.
Several members of the Greater Bangor NAACP were in attendance at the rally, which took place at Peirce Park, near the Bangor Public Library, Petersons said in an email to the Bangor Daily News.
The rally supported justice for Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford, Fla., in March.
Petersons said people spoke about the need to oppose racism, violence and fear, and the speakers included Bob Talbot from the Greater Bangor NAACP.
Many of the supporters also wore hooded sweatshirts. Martin was wearing a hooded sweatshirt when he was killed.
Another man with a guitar came to the rally and sang “Imagine” holding Skittles candy, which were donated by a local merchant. Martin had Skittles, a bottle of iced tea and a cellphone when he was killed, Petersons said in the email.
She said the group also sang “We Shall Overcome.”
Sadly the media has turned this into a huge circus and they keep showing pictures of Trayvon when he was 10 years old. None of them will post any of his middle finger pictures, or his tweets about doing drugs.
Zimmerman has been made out to be this huge racist by the media thanks to altered 911 tapes and people hearing words he never spoke.
I have no clue if Zimmerman was justified in the shooting but it would be nice if the media would let all the facts come out before taking a side.
For someone asking for all the facts to come out, you seem to have added some unconfirmed facts of your own, such as “altered 911 tapes.” “Words he never spoke.” Can you take your own advice, please?
Altered 911 tapes as acknowledged by NBC news who intentionally ran a segment with almost half of the narrative missing in order to make Zimmerman to appear more racist. Google the apology.
They have admitted to the altered 911 tapes and the photos of both are when they were younger.

Someone posted the tweets Mr. Martin was making, and they certainly don’t match up to the pictures posted on the news stories. He was certainly enamored with the “gansta” culture. Maybe he decided to “go gangsta” on the guy following him, I don’t know.
I will say that my original feelings were changed a great deal after reading the tweet log.

If you google “Ilze Petersons”, you will see that she has a very rich history as a community organizer in Chicago years past, has won awards as such, and now has set up camp here in Bangor. Not saying what she is doing is right or wrong, it certainly is within her right, but this little vigil is of no surprise from this group.

This was confirmed from the network itself in a press release. Still, it has little weight on the damage done to race relations due to Obama’s strong intent to push gun control into his reelection bid. This is just another tool that Obama is using to separate Caucasians from everyone else. I have never seen a black person embrace segregation as much as Obama.

Fact: George Zimmereman is a wanna be cop that has called 911 reporting black men on numerous occasions.
Fact: George Zimmerman had no right to approach Trayvon Martin as there was no crime being commited and no immenent danger to any persons by Trayvon Martin.
Fact: George Zimmerman was instructed by the 911 dispatcher to not follow Trayvon Martin.
Fact: The voice screaming for help on the 911 call from a third party has been analyzed and is not George Zimmerman.
Fact: Trayvon Martin was unarmed.
Fact: Trayvon Martin is dead.
I cannot say for sure that this was racially motivated, but I can say for sure that this NEVER should have happened and these “stand your ground laws” need to be seriously reconsidered….Peace

You are the one doing the twisting. I’m not making an attempt to defend Zimmerman but you are making an attempt to place all the blame on him without knowing the truth.
I stated FACTS….If you think it’s OK for an armed man to follow a 17 year old kid that is not committing a crime….and then continue to follow him after being told not to…and shoot him dead that’s your right..I think these “stand your ground laws” are seriously flawed…. and yes I am placing 100% of the blame on Zimmerman.

All your facts are coming from media reports but when someone else makes a statement they might have heard or read from the media you ask for their source. So please tell me your source for knowing all the facts.

Nice to be a Monday morning quarterback that is 1600 miles away from the scene of the crime. You can’t base any opinion on anything that is fed to any media outlet on this matter. There may be certain facts that will hold true in the end, but until the facts that define whole situation come out, it’s not fair to anyone to make a judgement. Would we even be having this conversation if the kid was white? Remember, Zimmerman is half LAtino.

I wonder if these people know they are just wasting their time. Pretty sure 30 people from Maine protesting isn’t going to help get George Zimmerman prosecuted.
It’s gone Global, so no, there is not just 30 people protesting against what took place on this hoody/skittles story. You should check out how many millions of people have posted pictures of themselves wearing a hoody in honor of Trayvon Martin. I hope that some day when I leave this Earth then people will respect me and not act in a barbaric manner like some have in their above comments.
