DEXTER, Maine — A Winslow man was arrested after Dexter police said they found over a pound of marijuana in his car during a routine traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.

Christopher Germano, 22, was pulled over on Grove Street by Dexter police Sgt. Kevin Wintle at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Germano’s green Subaru had a cracked windshield and was missing a front license plate, Wintle said Friday.

When Wintle went to talk to Germano, he smelled marijuana. Wintle called in Sgt. Alan Grinnell to assist. Wintle said that smelling the marijuana was probable cause to search the vehicle.

“We searched the vehicle and there was a duffle bag. We found over a pound of processed marijuana in a plastic bag,” Wintle said.

Germano was charged with Class C unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs. He was arrested and brought to the Dexter Police Department, where he bailed on the same day. His initial court appearance is set for May 17 at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.

Germano’s passenger, Nicole Paskowski, 21, of Hancock, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Her initial court appearance is scheduled for May 16 at Newport District Court.

      1. Police arrested an estimated 858,408 persons for cannabis violations in 2009. Of those charged with cannabis violations, approximately 89 percent were charged with possession only. An American is arrested for violating cannabis laws every 30 seconds.

    1. Legalize? You can’t be serious. Marijuana is a narcotic that permanently destroys the neural connections in your brain. That’s why there is no such thing as a smart pothead. It is illegal because it is a harmful and toxic substance.

      1. Keep talking pal, when you’ve had your IQ tested over 150, and are pulling in over 200K a year with ease (legally), all while “smoking pot” regularly, we will talk.

        1. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Hemmingway, Professional Athletes everywhere (for inflammation and joint pain)… the list of successful users goes on and on. It is less of a poison to the body than alcohol. It is illegal, and people will continue to use it, and the State and Feds will continue to dump money into unsuccessful campaigns to stop it. The biggest supporter of drug dealers is the government and law enforcement. There is a desire for weed, the government makes it illegal. There is still a desire. That is how a dealer is born. If it weren’t for prohibition, the general public wouldn’t recognize the name Al Capone.

      2. You are misinformed. Try reading some of the new data being reported all over the world as more and more studies are done, rather than repeat government propaganda. In other countries where the government allows scientific studies to be done, they are finding that it has incredible healing properties. There is some evidence that it helps shrink cancerous tumors because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

It is being studied in Alheimer’s patients and has shown that it could be beneficial in the treatment of that disease and it is now being used and studied in persons with autism. We already know all of the other ways that it can bring healing. If it were toxic as you say, then it would be bringing suffering instead of healing in so many people. If it destroys neural connections that why does it help Alzheimer’s patients, those with autism and who suffer seizures?

Many people use edibles so there is no damage to the lungs. Even still, there has been no study that definitively links smoked cannabis to lung cancer or other diseases. There are “pot heads” and then there are medical users and recreational users. Not everyone who uses cannabis becomes what I assume to be your stereotypical “pot head,” just like not all people who drink alcohol become alcoholics. I have met lawyers, doctors, teachers, professors, nurses, business owners, bankers, construction workers, brokers, dentists, entertainers, painters, successful college students, secretaries, politicians, artists, musicians, writers etc., who are very successful and highly intelligent that use marijuana recreationally or medicinally.

It is illegal for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons in the modern day is because of the tremendous force that pharmaceutical companies have in this country.  Back in the day it was other business leaders that, for reason of profit, convinced our government to tell the people that it was a harmful substance and that despite that fact that it been used all over the world for thousands of years, it suddenly was harmful. They don’t want it legalized or legal for medical use because it would cut into their revenues. Many people who use it as medicine are able to come of nearly all of the pharmaceuticals a

        1. The big lie !!!

“The campaign against marijuana had an hidden agenda, DuPont petrochemical interests and William Randolph Hearst together created the highly sensational anti-marijuana campaign to eliminate hemp as an industrial competitor in 1934. ”

      3. Give me a break!!  That’s what you get for watching “That 70’s show”…..so terribly misinformed.

      4. Also, if you had done five minutes worth of research you would know that right-hemisphere brain function is enhanced by the use of cannabis.

Your name is fitting, as you are merely repeating the reefer madness propaganda with which you have been brainwashed.

    2. Really? Alcohol is legal but it sure isn’t legal to have an open container in your car or to drink while driving…give me a break!

  1. Don’t travel with a pound of weed unless your vehicle is 100% legal….Trafficking 101 …..Hope the punishment fits the crime….Peace

    1. Maybe he was out shopping for auto repairs. A z here and a z there to get the car in good shape sort of thing.

  2. Folks like this do nothing to strengthen our case.  Do not be fooled.  We are not all so ignorant.

  3. lgalize. Stop the black market.
If peopel can grow their own, they dont have to buy it.
Oh wait, to o many pill poppers, and pharmys to allow that.

  4. What a waste of time…..legalization would open up so much opportunity for people with a few acres
