CASTLE HILL – Gertha B. McHatten, 96, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1915, the daughter of Peter and Rohamer Richardson.
She married Stanley H. McHatten in 1930 and they farmed for 56 years in Castle Hill. Gertha enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and will be remembered by all for her “grammy mittens.”
She is survived by three sons, Dana and his wife, Darlene, of Castle Hill, Dale and his wife, Sylvia of Mapleton and Hugh and his wife, Sandra, of Castle Hill; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Vella Condon; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Richardson of Columbia, S.C., and Maude Allodi of Sarasota Fla. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Leath Ambrose, Daphne Lovley, Leola Ellis and Musa Craig; and one brother, Alden Richardson.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Shannon Meyer officiating.
