ISLAND FALLS and WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Shirley Dunphy, 88, died April 3, 2012, in New Haven, Conn. She was born June 19, 1923, in Island Falls, daughter of Herbert and June (Dow) Wing.
Shirley moved with her family to West Haven, Conn., and spent many years as a bookkeeper for Grand Union before moving back to Island Falls with her husband, Everett, where they spent many great years together. While in Maine they enjoyed the company of their family and friends, as well as enjoying the best that each season had to offer. Later in life they spent their winters relaxing in Port Charlotte, Fla., enjoying the beach and baseball before returning to Maine each summer, “The Way Life Should Be.” Shirley was generous and thoughtful and enjoyed the constant company of her family and friends.
She is survived by a son, Michael Elbridge Dunphy of West Haven, Conn., and his partner, Janet Rion; two grandchildren, Michael Elbridge Dunphy II and his wife, Erin Maloney Dunphy, of Newburyport, Mass., and Jeanine Dunphy of West Haven, Conn.; three great-grandchildren, Fiona Sharon Dunphy, Michael Elbridge Dunphy III and Abbie Richelle Dunphy; three sisters, Edrice Bates of Old Orchard Beach, Bernice Cox of Island Falls and Wallingford, Conn., and Hazel Menze of Orrington; brother, Brian and Linda Wing of Patten; daughter-in-law, Lois Dunphy of West Haven, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Dunphy; and brother, William Wing.
