WASHINGTON — Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine isn’t taking kindly to being called a communist.
Republican Rep. Allen West of Florida said this week that he believes 75-plus House Democrats are members of the Communist Party. He was referring to members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, to which Pingree belongs.
Pingree tweeted Thursday that she’s a “proud progressive, not a communist.”
In a formal statement, she said name-calling does “nothing to help members of Congress bridge their differences.” And just to be perfectly clear, she says, “I am not now and never have been a member of the Communist Party.”
Implying there’s a difference between progressives and communists.

That is quite an ironic statement. Most modern Democrats and Republicans are very authoritarian/fascist. In fact, comparing Mitt Romney to Barrack Obama they are near identical in these terms. Authoritarianism has been a big part of the political landscape for nearly 100 years now. The only remaining political party that does not hold authoritarian views is the Libertarian party, which shouldn’t be a surprise since the opposite of Authoritarian is by definition Libertarian.
That’s pretty accurate. While the electees play with our money , futures and security they somehow manage to convince the masses that they fight each other and never agree on anything. They live high off of our tax dollar , retire with heafty benefits , and keep us fighting with each other so we don’t notice they are putting the screws to us. Now they are engaged in owning the media to help continue to convince us that they are all acting noble on our behalf. Our lives are filled with broken promises and lies and yet we love these guy’s , we’d even go off to war and fight for them. These career politicians have better smoke and mirror acts than you’ll find in Vegas. It’s time we put a stop to them. I’m all in favor of a citizen government. Term limits of one term , minimum wage , social security retirement and the same health care they prescribe for us. We the people seem to forget that this country was founded against the same form of taxation without representation that our elected officials now feed us.
Yup we do go off and fight the wars that we, the service members, did not create…all the while they, our “beloved” congressional leadership, are at home trying to steal our retirement benefits. So you make a mere pittance, spend months away from your family, getting shot at and blown up…and when it comes time to hang up your hat after a 30 year career you find that you now have to fight to keep even the very basic “promises” of this “grateful” nation. Self serving? Heck yeah they are…they are the 1%!!!

Progressive ideologies could have very well comes straight out of the communist manifesto. Some examples include, but are not limited to: A heavy progressive or graduated income tax; centralization of credit in the hands of the state; establishment of industrial armies; free education and healthcare; the wealthy only become wealthy by reaping the benefits of the working class; wealth goes to the government to be distributed for the “greater good.”
The primary difference between
Progressives and Communists is that Progressives do not want to do away with capitalism. But other than that, they are one in the same.

As to West’s integrity… he has plenty. He did what he did because he felt it was necessary to protect his men. He took responsibility for the incident and faced his disciplinary hearing like a man. He didn’t even try to blame to the blame previous battalion commander for having driven the battalion into the ditch.
He didn’t face it with integrity. He plea bargained out so he could keep sucking up tax payer money with his pension. If he had integrity he would have faced the hearing like a man instead of weaseling out of it. The man is a war criminal who jeopardized American soldiers lives by behaving like an animal.

Rather than characterize slavery as “enshrined” it would be more accurate to describe it as recognized by the Constitution as the status quo in some states, not as an endorsement.
In order to ensure that the United States Constitution would be approved by the slave-holding states so that the newly minted union would survive, the architects who were anti-slavery were forced to come at the issue obliquely.
The southern states wanted each slave counted as a separate person to increase the power of these states via their representation in the House of Representatives. The opponents of slavery insisted that each slave be counted as only 2/3 of a person in order to dilute the power of the slave states.
It was an expediency necessary at the time to facilitate approval of the Constitution, but it also planted the seed of eventual emancipation. The importation of slaves was prohibited eventually, another step. The Missouri Compromise in 1820 furthered the abolition movement; and then, of course, the Civil War settled the issue once and for all.
It’s important to remember that the Constitution recognized the realities of that particular time in history.
The necessity of compromise to save the republic seems a reasonable justification. Only you’re left with a republic where 18% of the population are enslaved. If the Fugitive Slave Clause of the Constitution did not expressly endorse slavery, I don’t know what did.

At the time the Constitution was written, the citizens of the various states were in the habit of thinking of themselves as citizens of Virginia, Massachusetts, etc. and were apprehensive of giving up their state sovereignty.
Article IV addresses this issue and reassures the states on the issue of sovereignty and mutual recognition by the states of the rights of other states.
The section you cite applies to both indentured servants and slaves.
In the case of indentured servitude, enforcement of a contract would appear to be the issue.
In the case of slavery, since slaves were considered to be property, it would appear to be a case of enforcement of property rights, as odious as the concept is today.
Again, in the context of the times, Article IV, Section II recognizes the status quo of the southern states and serves to reassure them of their sovereignty. It could be thought of as the anti-slavery states’ compromise to balance off the south’s acquiescence in the 3/5 representation issue.
It should also be noted how powerful Virginia, a slave-holding state, was at the time the Constitution was written.
The progressives/Democrats fought against the end of slavery and Civil Rights until the bitter end. Next.

There is nothing moderate about the Progressive agenda… I even hesitate to label them Progressives. There is much more to it than that. These folks are closer to a Kleptocracy than historical Progressives or communists for that matter.
Doing whats best for the country is fairly vague. On one hand, you can argue that keeping the rich, does not allow the poor to prosper due to the already wealthys ability to keep them down.

I like paying lower taxes and as a business owner have had to make hiring decisions based on things like minimum wage laws, overtime laws, and the idea of increased taxes.
The idea that we take money from super rich people like Ted Turner, Warren Sussman or multi millionaire actors like Matt Damon and Sean Pean based on the fact that they “have more than they really need” disgusts me. Yes, they are staunch Democrats but I still believe they earned their money and pay enough taxes already.

Everyone was all for it – home buyers, home builders, those who sold the homes, gathered and sold the mortgages as derivatives – it was great! The FED mandated the beast, nurtured it, and then when the whole artificial system that they had created blew up in the end, they blamed wall street and greedy capitalists. The government simply needs to stay out of trying to run the economy and get out of the way. The Great Depression would’ve been a blip if not for FRD, and we’re trying to repeat history here by doing the sale thing. Read Thomal Sowell’s “Basic Economics” to enlighten your mind. Especially you, “weneedbigbrother”.

However what libs need to learn from almost every country throughout history, from the roman empire to the soviet union, is that you cant spend money you dont have forever.
