LEWISTON, Maine — A Maine man says he lied when he accused former Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine of molesting him.

Zachary Tomaselli of Lewiston said Friday that he fabricated the allegations and took pride in his ability to convince people his claims were true. He told The Associated Press he’s a “habitual liar and sociopath” who lacks feelings for others.

Two other men made accusations against Fine but prosecutors say too much time had passed to consider charges related to their allegations.

Federal prosecutors examining Tomaselli’s claim did not comment. A district attorney said in December that evidence undercut Tomaselli’s credibility.

Fine has not been charged and has denied the abuse claims. His attorney declined comment Friday.

Tomaselli begins serving a prison sentence next week for molesting a boy in Maine.

  1. Tomaselli declares he’s a habitual liar. Even if he’s telling the truth, can we believe him?

    1. That’s somebody’s paradox, Zeno’s?  At any rate, a bit of age-old wisdom thatcan never be resolved.

    1.  Fine’s reputation is in tatters due to other much more credible reports.  This lie by Zachary Tomaselli was a crime of opportunity. It wouldn’t have even gotten this far had not the subject of the lie been in actuality dirty.

  2. It is very likely that a “habitual liar and sociopath” who lacks feelings for others.” was himself sexually abused by SOMEONE when he was a child.  Other symptoms include juvenile arson, bedwetting, and cruelty to animals.

The authorities should send this subject down to New York University Medical Center where he can be studied. We as a society need to know more about this behavior so we can combat it.
