BOOTHBAY, Maine — A 91-year-old man was found in the woods behind his home Sunday evening after his wife reported him missing earlier that day.

Robert Guillard left his home off River Road at 10 a.m. to go for a walk on his 40-acre property, according to a press release from the Maine Warden Service.

Guillard’s wife called authorities at 3:30 p.m. after her husband didn’t return home at 12:20 p.m. as expected.

Game Warden Pilot Dan Dufault spotted Guillard at 6:50 p.m. about half a mile from Guillard’s home, the release states.

Guillard was found in good condition lying in a bed of fir boughs that he made after deciding to spend the night in the woods, according to the release.

Several emergency response agencies including Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln County Search and Rescue, Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, as well as family members and friends of Guillard assisted the Maine Warden Service in the search.

  1. God bless him! Even though his wife was understandably worried, I have a feeling that the old feller just wanted something close to his heart and comfortable.

  2. Sounds like a pretty rugged dude! I’m glad they found him, but I have a feeling he would have been just fine had he spent the night out there.

    1. Yes so he can tell her that he is resting next to a pine tree that’s leaning a little towards the left.

  3. Guillard was found in good condition lying in a bed of fur bows that he made after deciding to spend the night in the woods, according to the release.

Uh, BDN, what the heck are “fur bows?” Did he find a fox and make pretty little gift bows from its fur?
    Perhaps you meant “fir boughs?”

And if it’s just a copy and paste from a press release, shouldn’t you perhaps either correct it, or put the (sic) after it to indicate it’s not your mistake?

    *sigh*

  4. glad he’s ok-my grandfather,at 90,used to take a walk every day-it’s easy to get lost in rural Maine though…

  5. Sounds like Survivor Man and Bear could take some lessons  from Mr. Guillard. All’s well that ends well. I hope I am that active at his age.
