LEWISTON, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage plans to be among the speakers at a Tax Day event in Lewiston.
The Republican governor will highlight a list of speakers and tax activists Sunday afternoon at an event marking the federal income tax filing deadline. LePage has sought to lower state tax rates.
Because April 15 falls on a Sunday and Patriots’ Day is the 16th, the state income tax filing deadline is Tuesday, April 17.
The Lewiston Tax Day rally is being held at the Franco-Heritage Center.
Also participating will be tea party activists and other groups.
Shouldn’t this be called “Cost shifting day”? Lepage increased state spending by 1/2 a billion dollars he created an entirely new tax on healthcare insurance and he is spending millions of our tax dollars to Canada with his anti-American Pro Canada policies.
…….and he is shifting the tax burden from those who can most afford it to those who can least afford it.
It’s the small rural towns who will suffer the most. Sad to say many of the voted for the sadistic lair Paul Lepage.

1) The budget increase last year was due to existing, mandated DHHS and education program expansions from the Baldacci administration, which were already in place when LePage took office.
2) The new health claim tax to feed Dirigo REPLACED the older, previously-existing tax on medical claims. The old Dirigo surcharge was per-claim. The new one is a $4 per month flat-fee surcharge. The old one has been eliminated. Most people will see a decrease in their costs, or very little change, if any.
3) I am looking forward to your proof of the supposed “spending millions of our tax dollars to Canada with his anti-American Pro Canada policies. ”
