HOWLAND, Maine — Two boys were charged with arson and released to the custody of their parents last week in connection with fires that damaged a playground slide and two buildings, one in Maxfield, state police said Tuesday.
State police Troopers Barry Meserve and Keith Barton were called to a fire reported at the Howland playground near the former Howland tannery building last week. When they arrived they found that a slide and a sweatshirt had been set ablaze, said Sgt. Tim York of the state fire marshal’s office.
The investigation revealed a connection between the two youths and fires that had damaged a garage on River Road in Howland and at another building in Maxfield, York said.
Both fires were determined to be arsons, state police said.
The investigation is continuing, York said.

Juvenile arson is a different malady than adult arson. Usually the juvenile variety is a call for help. Arson can be a symptom of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse or of neglect.
I hope the authorities will delve into this and see if these boys need more than just punishment.
i think they need their butts whooped
if you know them personally, this “thought” may have some validity. If you don’t then it is just another in a long line of stupid ideas.
the bdn need to get the facts straight because one of the youths has not been charged with the fire in howland or fire at the park with the slide.
