BANGOR, Maine — A local woman who went into Kohl’s with three friends and was caught concealing items in her purse Tuesday night was arrested for shoplifting even though she left the items in the store before running off, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Nicholle Worcester, 27, of Bangor, who was out on bail, was found at around 8:25 p.m. walking down the street nearby by Officer Mike Jewett. She was arrested and charged with theft and violating her bail conditions, Edwards said.

Worcester concealed some items in her purse and was uncooperative when stopped by store security, according to Edwards. Before leaving the store, he added, “she basically threw the clothes back on the rack and took off.”

Even though the clothing never left the store, “once you conceal it — it’s over” and theft charges can be filed, the sergeant said.

Worcester has prior convictions for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, assault, and twice for operating under the influence, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.

She was arrested in November after fighting with her parents, and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, domestic assault for shoving one of her parents, and obstructing the report of a crime for knocking away a phone that was being used to call police.

She also was picked up in March for violating her bail conditions, Edwards said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. I think of the time I put things in my pocket at Home Depot not thinking. I always pay for the things and no intent on stealing them . Look if she did not make it out of the store I think we better PROVE intent or most of us are guilty of stealing thing we paid for.  I remember when Walmart use to check receipts . And I would say no thanks I paid for the stuff. Haha I guess I am just one of those people they hate to deal with.

      1. I know Sams club is. I never play the game with Walmart. If they think I stole something they better prove it.  Like the beeping door at Lowes and Depot.  One day i am going to just run.  You see me steal something I am ok with being checked . But I do not pay those games that waist my time on foolishness.

        1. I no longer buy big ticket items at Walmart at all. Because half the time that alarm goes off at the door when I have the receipt, I paid for it. and I stand there while people are staring at me and sometimes they’ll be a coworker, family member, or friend that watches as someone comes over to speak with me. I am treated like a criminal just because the cashier was too stupid or lazy to deactivate the alarm-device on the box, or it simply didn’t deactivate like it should (which by the way there should be a confirmation notice at the register anyway). I’m not paying $300 out of pocket for a TV only to be humiliated at the exit and treated like a criminal while they make false accusations. Specially not with so many people shopping there that might know me. Besides WalMart isn’t half as cheap as they used to be and most of that stuff is crap.

          1. Just keep walking if they stop you and you did pay for it you could sue. I do not play those games . They tend to watch me when i go in the store after. It makes it easier to get help when you need it.

    1. Intent is the key word. Proof is for the courts, not “on the scene.”  This girl in the BDN fairly regularly for stealing. She’s apparent not getting it.

    2. I can’t imagine what your putting in your pocket at Home Depot, but I guess whatever it is,  it is far less expensive than your average tool or material.  A pocket full of nails they may let slide?     ‘bettrn a handful of peanutshells….

    3.  Bob there is absolutely NO REASON you should or need to use your pockets for store items. ha ha ha and “not thinking” is NO excuse.

      1.  Exactly!! Since you KNOW it looks suspicious, why take the chance……..OH…….WAIT A MIN…….Common sense……..men don’t have COMMON SENSE! lol

      2. When you get 10 little things it hard to hold them all in your hands . just saying people do it without thinking. I have never walked out the door with something in my pocket.

    4. PS Speaking of WalMart. One reason why I stopped shopping there is when the cashiers would constantly forget to rub that security tab over the register to deactivate it. So when you get to the door the alarm goes off and you hear that loud recorded voice say: “BING! Please step away from the door so that we may embarrass you. BING”. Of course every time they would come over and check my receipt they’d clearly see I paid for the stuff but it was too humiliating. Often I think they did that on purpose. You know since WallyWorld rubbed out the competition and now has us all slaves to shopping there. But I did stop buying stuff there, specially big ticket items. I might go in to WallyWorld once in a while if a friend of mine happens to go in shopping but I wouldn’t buy much more than maybe shapoo or sunblock these days. Besides they aren’t as cheap as they used to be and it’s mostly crap at Walmart anyway. and like I said I’m sick of that alarm when Im not stealing anything “Bing! Please step away from the door so all your friends, neighbors, and coworkers can assume you are stealing! Bing! Please step away from the door while we make false accusations in front of everybody that can see you! Bing!”

  2. I am truly confused here.  While working for Movie Gallery, a place that got ripped off daily of games, DvD’s and electronics, i actually was in there on a night off and caught someone stealing movies out of the cases…The dude would bend down, break the lock and remove the disk from the case before putting it in his pocket…I explained this to BPD and they told me that until he passed the final point of sale, it was not considered theft…What the heck?  Make up your mind folks….if that was the case i would have nailed a whole lot more for intending to steal while working there…It would be good if the authorities would actually be honest with citizens on what they arrest for and what they wont arrest for.  Dont ya think?

  3. Judging by her picture she obviously has enough money to feed her face but not for clothes? ha ha

  4. Why would you put anything in your pockets at any store DUHHHHHH thats what shopping carts or shopping baskets are for.Unless of course nowdays you have to pay a rental charge for carts LOL
