BAR HARBOR, Maine — A retaining wall approximately 10 feet high and 20 feet wide that supports part of the Duck Brook Road in Acadia National Park collapsed on Wednesday, according to Keith Johnston of Acadia National Park.
Johnston said the supporting wall fell about 200 yards north of the Duck Brook Bridge, forcing the road to be closed from the bridge north and then east to where the road meets the park portion of West Street Extension.
Barriers will be placed at both ends of the section of closed road, allowing pedestrians and bicyclists to pass through.
Johnston said he doesn’t believe funding exists to complete repairs and the road will remain closed indefinitely.

That’s why we don’t need another National Part because they don’t have the money for this park
True, we’re giving it all to the folks who decide not to work.
you funny !! Plus if i was hiring welfare people i could find plenty of reasons for not hiring them
You funny !! i can fine a number of reasons why i would not hire a welfare person
That is quite a quantum leap. Maybe this is just not an important road. There is plenty of work being done in the park. It is just planed out years ahead.
If a 10 by 20′ long wall fell on your property, you’d have it cleaned up the next day or within a week. When it is federal, it will be ‘closed indefinitely.’
It says they need funding for repairs. Just cleaning it up won’t get the road opened in this case.
If the government opted not to build one predator drone, They could rebuild the entire road and have enough left over to add a picnic area with restrooms.
Crazy priorities.
But a retaining wall can’t shoot a missile at a car full of high value targets speeding through the Yemeni desert.
Good point. A predator drone can’t last for hundreds of years and help to bring pleasure to thousands of good American citizens either. I know the location of this collapse–it is a beautiful spot.

So another National park in Maine is such a good idea……What a joke !
China and India are building new infrastructure, as they watch Americas bridges, walls and other forms of the infestructure fall apart. When is the U.S. government going to stop working for China and start working for Americans? When is the U.S. government going realize that Free Trade is rapidly destroying America and it’s citizens? How much longer will Americas citizens let the U.S. government continue this no where plan?
How much longer? Until voters remove each and every Republican and many Democrats from the House and Senate.
This will be used as an excuse to give Acadia to a friends group.
the mayans were right…
Have Quimby fix it, she seems to know everything about running a National Park..
I can see why this repair isn’t a priority. The road doesn’t go anywhere and everything on it can still be accessed with ease.
More proof that our state if slowing falling apart. : (
