SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. and BANGOR – Dr. Michael C. Shannon, 66, passed away April 7, 2012, at his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1945, in Bangor, son of Paul and Alice (Mailman) Shannon, the first of seven children.

He had been a resident of the Santa Rosa Beach, area for the past four years, moving from Lexington, Ky. Michael was catholic by faith. He had earned his Ph.D. as a pharmacy educator. His schooling included undergraduate at the University of Rhode Island and he obtained his master and doctorate of pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin College of Pharmacy. Michael enjoyed stamp collecting, was an avid reader and also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Most of all he loved his family and was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and nephew.

Surviving are his parents, Paul and Alice Shannon; loving wife of 45 years, Colina; sons, John Shannon of Lexington, Ky., Eric Shannon of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; two grandsons, Thomas Michael Shannon and Sean Michael Shannon; brothers and sisters, Anthony, Rosemary, Cecelia, Tom, Becky and Juliette; aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, at St. Paul the Apostle, St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
