ROCKLAND, Maine — A 35-year-old South Thomaston woman charged with setting fire last year to a four-unit apartment building in Rockland is back behind bars.
Christie Look was arrested April 12 by a Knox County sheriff’s deputy, who conducted a bail check on her, after spotting her driving on Route 73 and turning onto Old Tote Road in South Thomaston.
The police report filed by the deputy stated that Look failed the field sobriety test and later a test at the jail found her blood alcohol level at 0.19, more than twice the legal limit to drive of 0.08. She was charged with operating under the influence and violating a condition of release.
As a result of that arrest, Assistant District Attorney Jonathan Liberman filed a motion April 13 to have Look’s bail on the arson charge revoked. A hearing on that motion is scheduled for Monday afternoon in 6th District Court in Rockland.
Look had been arrested Tuesday, Feb. 7, and charged with arson for the fire that occurred Dec. 1, 2011, at a four-unit apartment building at 25 Talbot Ave. in Rockland.
The fire heavily damaged the apartment that Look and her boyfriend lived in and caused smoke damage to the other apartments. There were no injuries, but damage estimates totaled more than $50,000.
The fire initially was considered to have started accidentally in Look’s apartment from a candle that fell onto clothing. But Look admitted to police in an interview Dec. 2 that she had set fire to clothes in a suitcase in the apartment’s kitchen in a suicide attempt. The arrest did not occur until later because she had entered a mental health facility voluntarily.
Look remained jailed after Feb. 7 unable to meet bail set at $20,000 until March 8, when Justice Jeffrey Hjelm reduced the bail to $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety.
The district attorney’s office argued on March 8 against lowering the bail because of Look’s severe mental health problems and concerns that she might again do something that could endanger other people.
Defense attorney William Pagnano successfully countered that his client was undergoing intensive outpatient mental health treatment, would live with an aunt and would be under the supervision of Maine Pretrial Services. He also pointed out that she has no criminal record.

I never feel sorry for the perp… but I do here. She has some demons she’s dealing with… hope she doesn’t hurt anyone.
I’m with you, kenny. But we have to wonder if we would feel the same if that was my ugly mug up there. Or yours. She’s got the deer-in-the-headlights look, but if it were a man or a homely woman, we may have a more negative thought. We are a strange organism. But I do hope this young lady has all work out for her, with a long life and happiness.

They thought the fire was accidental . She admitted she was tying to commit suicide while starting the fire. Now with all the mental heath issues she has she has an arson charge.

Christie is a really nice girl , she means well.. shes sick mentally tho , locking her up will only hurt her much more… the state dont get it people are sick mentally from life trauma events that have took place in her life & have really messed with her mentally. if she does get sentenced some time id hope they would allow her to do the time in a rehab or mental hospital where she can get treatment & be evaluated. jail is not the place she belongs whatsoever. jail will just make her more ill.
