PRESQUE ISLE – Opal J. O’Connor, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior, April 23, 2012, unexpectedly at her residence. She was born July 19, 1932, in Westfield, daughter of Archie and Alda (Brown) Day.
Opal was a very happy and up beat person, who loved life and was always ready to take a trip on not much notice. She taught school for 38 years in the SAD 1 district. She was a giving and kind person, who will be greatly missed by her many friends. She was like a sister to so many especially her childhood friend, Eleanor Grow, who talked with her each day by phone; Mary Hawthorne, who was a best friend; and special friends, Phyllis Billing and Mary Anne Buck.
She is survived by a brother, Lawrence Day of Fort Fairfield; special nieces, Annette Labbe and husband, Michael, of St. Agatha, Duska Day of Fort Fairfield, Diane Day of Litchfield; great-niece, Haley Labbe and fiance, Timothy Brown, of Livermore; and great-nephew, Christopher Labbe of St. Agatha. She loved these children like her own. Opal also leaves her cats, Tina and Tanner, who were her faithful companions. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Ted Merritt.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Pastor Jonathan Cross officiating. Friends may call noon until time of service at the funeral home. A reception will be held immediately after the service in the funeral home reception area. Interment will be at a later date in Marshall Cemetery, Westfield. Donations may be made in her memory to Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
