OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Police have arrested a local transient in the fatal stabbing of a man whose body was found over the weekend in Old Orchard Beach.

Police on Tuesday arrested 44-year-old Michael Swenson at his mother’s house in Scarborough. Stephen McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department said Swenson was charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Roger White.

White’s body was found Saturday morning behind a bar called The Whaler where the two men had been the night before. Police say they were friends.

McCausland said Swenson had been living in a lean-to along railroad tracks in Old Orchard Beach and has worked in construction for several years. Swenson ‘s initial court appearance will be on Wednesday or Thursday.
