GREENVILLE, Maine — The man accused of brutally attacking a woman Wednesday evening on the outskirts of town has turned himself in, Greenville Police Chief Jeff Pomerleau said Thursday.
John “Cheeto” Johnson, 42, of Greenville turned himself in to police around 8 p.m. Thursday. Pomerleau said police were able to convince Johnson to turn himself in by speaking to him through friends and relatives.
The woman is being treated for her injuries, Greenville police said in a statement Wednesday.
Johnson, who already has a criminal record, is being charged with kidnapping, gross sexual assault, aggravated reckless conduct, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of property and criminal threatening. He is being held at Piscataquis County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail.
Greenville police, the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Maine Warden Service and Maine Forest Service were all involved in the search.
