GREENVILLE, Maine — The man accused of brutally attacking a woman Wednesday evening on the outskirts of town has turned himself in, Greenville Police Chief Jeff Pomerleau said Thursday.
John “Cheeto” Johnson, 42, of Greenville turned himself in to police around 8 p.m. Thursday. Pomerleau said police were able to convince Johnson to turn himself in by speaking to him through friends and relatives.
The woman is being treated for her injuries, Greenville police said in a statement Wednesday.
Johnson, who already has a criminal record, is being charged with kidnapping, gross sexual assault, aggravated reckless conduct, aggravated assault, unauthorized use of property and criminal threatening. He is being held at Piscataquis County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail.
Greenville police, the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department, Maine State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Maine Warden Service and Maine Forest Service were all involved in the search.
BDN reporter Alex Barber also contributed to this story.

Well aren’t we fancy nowadays? It has always been the Piscataquis County Jail and now it is a Correctional Facility? Sounds like a resort.
Juniper Ridge!!!! Sounds like a resort also… I went there for a day spa just to find out it was a dump for out of state trash.
Now if they could solve the Rite Aid, Robinsons and MHFCU robberies…
I’ll bet Jimmy Johnson, NASCAR driver of the #48 Chevy and LOWES are wicked happy to have this fine upstanding gentleman as a fan.
No such thing as bad press.
Hey BDN, why isn’t his occupation included in the headline? Get my point finally? Yes? Good.
What is his occupation? Does he have one?
Short Order Cook arrested. (-;
If it was a fireman it would be announced in bold letters.
The headline calls him guilty – and ‘brutally’ so – where he’s only accused. Probably ‘no harm no foul’, but c’mon guys! Journalism 101!
Trust me, there is no question of his guilt in this case, though I understand your word of caution.
I do not know where this person worked ( or even worked at all ). I belevie that with all the touurist & sesonal bussines in the area , empoyers should be requied to do ” background ” checks. There are many, many, many men, women & children that come to this area, also seanol workers.. Just because a worker is ” Seasonal” does not mean they become excempt from a background check.
