Community meetings have been designed to help baby boomers and other Medicare beneficiaries understand the basics of Medicare and make informed health care decisions.

UnitedHealthcare will host a series of meetings in Maine to help baby boomers and other Medicare beneficiaries better understand the Medicare program.

In Maine, 267,000 baby boomers will turn 65 this year and become eligible for Medicare. The UnitedHealthcare events will help these newly eligible individuals and other Medicare beneficiaries learn about their options.

“Our goal is to help people enrolling in Medicare for the first time or making changes to their coverage feel more comfortable and secure in the process,” said Steve King, regional vice president of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement in Maine.

At the meetings, local licensed sales agents will present information about the basics of Medicare, as well as an overview of UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans available in Maine. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about their coverage options and how to find coverage that best meets their health and financial needs.

  1. I think there’s a typo in this article…In Maine, 267,000 people turning 65 this year??? That’s almost 20% of Maine’s population!

      1. Not possible.  As one of those baby boomers turning 65 this year, there are not 267,000 of us in the state of Maine.  There may be 267,000 baby boomers in Maine, but not 267,000 in Maine turning 65 in 2012.

According to Datashare on the Maine.Gov website, the most recent census info I could find was for 2000.  In that census, there were less than 100,000 of us spanning the age range of 50-54 (in 2000, I would have been 53), so maybe there are 26,700 of us turning 65 in Maine this year, not 267,000.

  2. Why no meetings in the Bangor area? Hey we have lots of Medicare recipients around here too!

  3. You may look at the premium amount and think that there is no way that you can afford it. You cannot afford to be without health insurance! shop around you may find it easy to find an affordable premium, I always find health insurance through “Penny Health” network.
