SOMERSWORTH, N.H. — A North Berwick, Maine, man has been indicted on a single count of welfare fraud in New Hampshire.
Corey Morin, 45, of 1 Johnny Lane in North Berwick, was indicted in connection with a period of time from November 2007 to March 2011 in which he allegedly obtained “Food Stamps and Healthy Kids medical assistance benefits to which he was not entitled” as well as lied to the N.H. Department of Health and Human Services by telling the organization that the mother of his child did not live with him, according to court filings. This lie ensured that Morin was able to receive financial benefits of more than $1,000.
Welfare fraud is considered a Class A felony with an up to $4,000 fine and 7½ to 15 years in prison.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt; rather, it means a grand jury has found sufficient evidence to warrant a trial.

If this one has been found, then there must be hope for finding other welfare cheats.
I’m glad he got busted, but the authorities will urinate away thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars prosecuting him. How about the billions given away in bonuses under TARP and it’s progeny? (TARP, by the way, was a GWB move, which the current administration continued). The less you steal, the more is spent on prosecuting you. All this means to me is that if you’re going to rip off the taxpayer (e.g., derivative gambling) do it BIG time and the government probably will let you skate.
Now if only dhhs would focus on finding the welfare cheats in lewiston and portland.
Unfortunately, it’s likely going on all over the State with higher cheat-densities in the population centers as you’ve suggested. Whenever government institutes social benefit programs with little or no elegibility compliance checks it doesn’t take those intent on defrauding the program long to perceive that their chances of being caught are nil. I’d suspect that such people living in rural areas of Maine have flown ‘under the radar’ for quite some time.

And restitution I hope….
“And restitution I hope….”. Ya, like trying to get blood out of a rock.
We can save this state with Gov LePage. Eliminate all forms of welfare including Maine Care and Medicare, Socila Security, Food Stamps, Workman’s comp! DO IT NOW GOVERNOR!!!
This sounds like a great idea!!!! It would get rid of Lepage.
and get rid of unemployment too!!! Thats also nothing but a big scam that is costing us the taxpayers a ton of money!!!
Just let people starve. with the new workers comp laws I do not see anymore Jobs I also do not know anyone that has gotten raises. He is doing nothing to create jobs like the new electrician law only taking away decent paying jobs and replacing them with lower wage ones.
Unemployment benefits are paid for by the company who laid them off. It doesn’t cost you anything.
I thought THEY said this never happens…
My stepson’s mother lied for a year while our custody case was going through and obtained over $5,000 of benefits. She said her child was with her full time and she lived alone, when in fact we have him over 1/2 of the week (4 nights, 3 full days). She also lived with various boyfriends and family – never on her own. She did not work, go to school, or volunteer at all. DHHS was aware of all of this, and they knew it from the first court date to the final order over a year later. They never blocked her from obtaining benefits.
In the end, DHHS decided to just wipe it away, instead of making her repay it. She had to sign something saying she won’t be eligible for anything for him going forward, but the other amount, it’s like they don’t care at all about thousands of dollars fraudulently obtained.
That is very frustrating to me. I work, I have a son from a previous marriage and I have never taken state aid. Was it hard? Yes, but now I know that I worked for my money and didn’t have to rely on the state to pay my way.
Once again, the state can get this guy but can’t seem to apprehend Robert Nutting for cheating MaineCare out of over a million dollars.
