WARREN, Maine — The Warren Planning Board meeting scheduled for the evening of April 26 to review a proposed methadone clinic has been postponed.
The meeting was delayed because the Maine Department of Transportation has yet to issue its driveway permit for the CRC Health Group clinic proposed for 1767 Atlantic Highway, also known as Route 1.
The planning board, at its last meeting on the clinic held March 8, said it wanted the transportation department approval before it would decide on the project.
CRC has been trying to get approval from Warren, first at the former Warren Primary School and now at the Route 1 location, since fall of 2010.
No new date for a review has been scheduled.
CRC has a pending lawsuit against the town in federal court, claiming the town has discriminated against people with drug addiction by first imposing a moratorium and then enacting restrictions on such clinics. The town and the health group had reached a settlement in September but that was contingent on the planning board taking action within 90 days of the submission of CRC’s latest application, a deadline that has passed.
The parties have until June to decide whether to dismiss the lawsuit or for the case to be put back on the active docket.
We don’t need Methadone clinics, make people take responsibility for their own actions not the tax payer.The tax payers do not want to be forced into position of enabler’s. we live in a free society were we make our own decision’s and take responsibility for our own action’s .

We give a narcotic (methadone) to heroin addicts, so why not give alcohol to alcoholics? Cocaine to coke addicts? I’m getting sick of this Nanny State handing everything out “free of charge” to people as a reward for their poor choices in life.
