AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine experienced a mild winter and an unseasonably warm early spring, but that hasn’t translated into a big drop in heating oil costs.
The state said Monday that the current statewide average is $3.77 per gallon, a drop of only 8 cents since the last winter survey on March 26.
Ken Fletcher from the governor’s energy office says Mainers should not wait until next winter to explore alternative heating options. He says a cold winter or disruptive events in the Middle East could be “devastating” for Mainers and could be offset by efficiency improvements this summer.
Within the survey, the lowest actual heating oil price of $3.44 per gallon was found in southwestern Maine. The highest price of $4.07 was in central Maine.

Community Oil Company in Augusta has been selling heating oil for 3.399 for quite some time. I don’t know where the AP got its information.
It would be nice if they would deliver at that price in Washington County.
I so agree. I have never understood why the prices of heating oil and gasoline are so much more costly in Washington and Aroostook Counties especially since Irving Oil is right across the border.
GREED
Consumption was WAY down this year due to mild weather…Theres no reason gas and fuel oil should be this high. We have so much we are exporting it out of the country. Its BS!!!!!
Us citizines can’t ever be comfortable thats the U.S’s goal, So therefor they Bleed us till we only have a drop to survive on… keeping us there.
Oh wow – maybe we won’t freeze to death THIS winter. What a joke.
Fuel Oil is still 50 cents higher than it should be. There is no highway use tax on #2 FO, yet it is as expensive as gasoline.
This is the time of year to join “budget billing” and “capped price” programs. Some companies are offering sign on bonuses to new customers. It would be great if the Bangor Daily Newspaper could run stories detailing what options are available to Maine consumers.
Funny thing is, as soon as we don’t need it the price drops! I agree full on GREED! Gotto love the way the government protects it’s working class!
Up again in the fall…..
