ARGYLE TOWNSHIP, Maine — The Maine Warden Service says a mother and her two children are safe after they became lost while walking in the woods near their home in Argyle Township.

Officials say 42-year-old Kristina Ivey called for help at about 8 p.m. Wednesday to report she and her 9- and 14-year-old children were lost and darkness was approaching.

Neighbors had made voice contact with Ivey, but they were unable to locate her.

Wardens took a compass bearing on Ivey’s distance voice. The three were located about 500 yards into the woods. They were led back to their home.

The Maine State Police, the Penobscot Nation Warden Service and the Penobscot Country Sheriff’s Department also responded to the call for help.

  1. Perhaps you could conduct some training sessions for the warden service. Maybe you could impress them a “little bit.”

    1. I would think grid based search is great for finding evidence, but not mobile targets. Linear distance is crucial when finding moving targets. You backfill search zones as assets are accumulated. Assuming you allow assets to be accumulated!

  2. A perfect example of why the citizens of Maine are so fortunate to have our Wardens in charge of SAR.  Good job.

  3. We should be very thankful that we have such dedicated members of the Maine Warden Service and other LE Agencies in our state that risk their lives daily to protect us. This is just a small example of the great work they do. These folks are very lucky that LE, as well as volunteer’s were there in time of need and they are now home safe. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!!

  4.  You just sound like a pissy little brat who got pinched for having a short trout at some point in his life.

  5.  Yet more lost folks brought in to safety, thanks to the Maine Warden Service.  If any of my children follow their pet into the woods and get lost, these are the people I will call.  Right behind them will be the search and rescue volunteers.  Thanks to both of them for their time and dedication.

  6. Now why in the heck would you type something like that about Mr. Michaud when he had nothing to do with this at all.  Are you that scared that Mr. Michaud actually knows what he is doing?  Or do you not give credit to someone who most deffinately deserves it. Get a clue and stop bashing people I am quite sure that Mr. Michaud probably does not even know that this search even happened. Considering the place where the search was conducted was well over 200 miles south of where Mr. Michaud resides.

    1. What difference does distance make? When there is nothing around you but woods, with no sun for orientation, no houses can be seen, no traffic can be heard — how do you know which way to go if you haven’t been walking in a perfectly straight line? (which nobody does in the woods — even if you think you have, you haven’t)
