GREENBUSH – David J. Wienckowski, 61, died unexpectedly April 11, 2012, at his residence. He was born July 13, 1950, in Detroit, Mich., a son of Edward and Helen (Popielarz) Wienckowski.

David grew up in the Detroit area. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served five tours of duty during Vietnam, where he sustained injuries on the battlefield. After his discharge from the service he began his career in the pulp and paper industries at Statler Paper Mill, Augusta, before being transferred to Fort James Mill, Old Town. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, where he volunteered to drive veterans to appointments. David loved the outdoors: hiking, the Maine coast, gardening and reading.

He is survived by his son, David E. Wienckowski and his wife, Jennifer, of Bowdoin; three granddaughters, Courtney, Taylor and Hayden Wienckowski; two brothers, Ron and Robert; and a sister, Lorraine. He was predeceased by his parents.

Private interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
