POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — The deaths of a man and his girlfriend over the weekend were the result of a murder-suicide after the couple’s relationship recently ended, the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday.

Stephen K. Bradley, 27, of Margate shot and killed Melissa D. Kaehler, 35, of Fort Lauderdale, the Sheriff’s Office said. Kaehler, who lived in Maine for several years, was a 1994 graduate of Hermon High School and Husson College in 2001.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday, Kaehler’s body was found in a dark four-door sedan in the parking lot of Walmart at 2300 W. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach, authorities say. At the time, investigators removed from the sedan enough flower bouquets to fill a shopping cart.

That same morning, Bradley’s body was found floating in a canal about seven miles west of the Walmart, in the 9900 block of Twin Lakes Drive in Coral Springs.

Authorities found a suicide note near Bradley’s body, “detailing what he had done,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. Specifics about what the note said weren’t released.

  1. You were ripped away from us, Melissa.  This is unfair, you are missed, you will always be missed.  You have found peace now, though you have left so many of us with turmoil.  Rest sweet girl, rest now.  And we’ll all party again someday in a different life!

  2. I do not know Melissa personally but I have some friends who were friends of hers. This is just horrible my condolences to her family and friends may she rest in peace
