STETSON, Maine — A group of people collecting fiddleheads Saturday morning made a grisly discovery when they found the remains of a man who had not been seen for several months, Maine State Police Lt. Wesley D. Hussey said Monday.

Joshua Mishio, 32, lived in the area, Hussey said. Mishio never was reported missing, the lieutenant added.

“The medical examiner at the scene feels the remains were there for most of the winter,” the lieutenant said.

Maine State Police Detective Brian Strout said Tuesday that Mishio’s wife contacted police seven months ago but did not file an official missing person report.

“She had called in October … to report no one had seen him,” the detective said. “She didn’t suspect anything at the time.”

The man’s body was discovered off Merrill Road around 10 a.m. Saturday. A neighbor said that police dogs also were at the scene on Sunday.

Mishio’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta for an autopsy, which was started on Monday, according to administrator Mark Belserene.

What killed Mishio is not known, but is under investigation, Hussey said.

“I’m hoping by the end of the week to have a cause of death,” he said.

At this point nothing about the death looks suspicious, Hussey said, adding that a cause of death will determine where the investigation goes from here.

No evidence of any weapons was found at the scene, the lieutenant said.

    1. I read the article earlier when it was first posted and wondered the exact same thing.

  1. To set the record straight his name was spelled Joshua Mishio. He is survived by his wife,
    no children.

  2. He was found in the woods, had been there most of the winter, no one reported him missing and this is NOT suspicious???  32 year olds don’t just turn up in the middle of the woods dead on a regular basis! YIKES!

    1.  That is true which is why I want to know if it is the same Josh Michaud I know because he had some issues but I dont think he would actually kill himself over it. But again it has been along time since I saw him and who knows what was actually going on with him.

  3. Sounds like the wife was happy he was gone…She didnt report him missing…either that or she knows more than shes letting on

    1.  If his wife was glad he was gone then I am going to assume it had to do with her why he would even go in the woods and if it is the same josh I knew I know he was diabetic and maybe that was the cause of death.

    1. He wnt to central middle school and also central high school for a lil while. His wife didnt report him missing because that was not unusual behavior for josh. Granted the time frame and the length of time he was missing was more then normal, yes he was diabetic he needed his insulin everyday. I soon to bet that had something to do with it. He may have done alot of stuff that ppl werent quite happy about but he was gd natured at heart, ive known him for more the n 15 yrs and the FEW TRUE FRIENDS HE HAD will forever miss him!

  4. it was not unusual for josh to take off from time to time, and many family and friends have been concerned for his safe return many of these times, including this one! please dont judge his family when you do not know the situation,……MY HEART GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY!!  you will be missed Joshy! <3

    1.  So it was the same Josh I knew and it was not unusual for him to leave and not return for days even months, that we know is certain of him. I hope they figure out why and what happened so the family can have a bit of closure not that that will be enough for them or bring him back but it is a start.

  5. josh was missed and we the family have been looking for months for him.  His last name was
incorrect it is MISHIO.  His wife tried to file a missing person report but the authorities were not
helpful due to things that no one needs to know about.  Thank god his mother is not in this state to hear and read things that people have said and reported.  We are just thankful that he has been found and she can stop the restless nights of not knowing where he is.  Be kind people as you don’t know the whole story.  He was a son  a brother an uncle and a great uncle so leave him and his family alone
