DOVER, N.H. — A Maine resident was arrested Thursday following an April incident where he allegedly stole from a Dover woman while caring for her child.
Marc Ryan Beaulieu, 25, of 25 Olgren Road, Caribou, Maine, was arrested May 3 by Somersworth police for receiving stolen property after he allegedly took a PlayStation 3 and numerous video games — subsequently selling the items at GameStop in the Tri-City Plaza.
The incident occurred April 25 when Beaulieu was responsible for the care of a child at 115 Regent Drive in Dover, according to police, who said that while the resident was running errands, Beaulieu left the child home alone to steal the items from the residence.
The child was not injured and it is believed he was alone for less than one hour. Beaulieu also faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was released on $500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court June 25.

Young mothers,
Let me tell you something that is is sad, but true.
It’s very rare that a male friend in his younger years will have enough knowledge nor ability to care for your child to the best of your wishes. WAKE UP!
As a male in my younger years, I take offense to this statement.
You should.
That’s why I said ‘rare’. I understand that there are exceptions.
rare/re(ə)r/
Adjective:(of an event, situation, or condition) Not occurring very often.Synonyms:uncommon – unusual – scarce – infrequent – sparse
What a sleeze. He was suppose to be babysitting and stole her stuf. Nice! What’s next on your agenda Beaulieu, are you going to steal the fillings out of an old woman’s head?
Don’t give him any ideas!
My bad. Sorry.

So if Maine has no age limit on when children can be left home alone, how can leaving a child alone constitute child endangerment? Not condoning it by any means, but just curious. They don’t say how old the child was, so maybe that’s a factor. 2 year old vs a 10 year old…
My guess would be he violated 1C:
http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/statutes/17-a/title17-asec554.html
If I turn my child over to you for the expressed purpose of caring for the child and instead you rip me off and vanish, then you’ve probably (according to the law), endangered the welfare of the child.
Maine does have laws pertaining to leaving a child home alone. But this took place in New Hampshire. And if he is guilty to child endangerment then New Hampshire has laws also.
That is not true. According to latchkey-kids.com, neither Maine or NH have laws regarding children being home alone, but the recommended age is 12. According to the National Child Care Information Center, only Illinois and
Maryland currently have laws regarding a minimum age for leaving a child home
alone. Parental discretion should be made on the child’s maturity level and length of time the adults will be gone.
Yikes — headline and article suggest the child was “left alone to sell stolen items.” Makes it sound as if the child was the one doing the selling. Rewrite alert….
