STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — Police are asking for help as they search for a man believed to have violently sexually assaulted a 61-year-old woman Monday afternoon at her residence in Stockton Springs.

The woman did not know her assailant, according to Detective Jason Bosco of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. She contacted police after being attacked at about 3:30 p.m. and was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released, he said Tuesday afternoon.

The assailant did not steal anything, according to the detective, who said he was releasing limited information about the attack because the case is under investigation.

Bosco encouraged residents to lock up and not open doors to strangers.

“We are looking for any information that would help lead us in the direction of the person who did this,” he said.

The man is described as being between 35 and 45 years old, six feet tall with dark hair and hazel eyes.

He has a scar on the right side of his face, according to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The anchor-shaped scar begins under the man’s nose, circles around his mouth and ends on his chin, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect also has a tattoo on his fingers in the form of letters. It was not known what the letters spell.

The assailant was driving a blue car with a large white decal or emblem on the hood.

If anyone has information about the man, or the incident, police ask that they call the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at 338-2040.

  1. The description of the car and man fit what I heard on the police scanner last night (5-7) between 8 and 10 pm. Hope that is helpful.

    1. what you probably heard on the scanner was them broadcasting the APB for a stop and hold out of waldo county through all cars and stations ( and your home scanner)…

  2. This is just plain scary. My thoughts and prayers go to the victim. It’s sad when you aren’t even safe in your own home.

  3. Sick, I pray for the woman who was raped. I hope they catch the guy. This is one reason everyone should have a gun in the house ready to be used.
