SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A Saco woman was hospitalized after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Police had to shut down Holmes Road for more than four hours Tuesday after a Honda Accord driven by Julia Jacobson-Maloney, 51, of Saco struck a Chevy Suburban driven by Erron Pennell, 32, of Limington, Scarborough police said in a statement.

Jacobson-Maloney was unconscious when police arrived at the scene, according to the release. She and Pennell were taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Pennell was treated and then released. A hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday afternoon that Jacobson-Maloney’s condition had been upgraded from critical to fair condition.

The crash, which occurred at the intersection of Holmes and Beach Ridge roads, remains under investigation.
