GLENBURN – Mary-Jane (Donnelly) Rich, wife of the late Col. Malcolm D. Rich, died May 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 3, 1928, in Bangor, daughter of William M. and Maude H. (Grant) Donnelly. She and her husband were longtime members of Bangor Baptist Church and Messiah Baptist Church, Bangor. Mary-Jane attended Mary Snow School, was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1946, and ran the class reunions for many years. Mary-Jane loved crocheting, ceramics, shopping, sewing and traveling; she and her husband kept a winter home in Florida for years. A talented woman, she was also a person of determined personality. Mary-Jane was a free spirit who instilled individuality, faith and spiritedness in all her children. She was a candy striper and in later years a hospice volunteer. She was a homemaker and mother of four children who survive her, Donna Shoaf and her husband, Bill, of Cherry Hill, N.J., Michael Rich and his wife, Susan, of Goldsboro, N.C., Matthew Rich of New York City and Mark Rich and his wife, Margot, of Aiken, S.C. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Laura, Julietta, Hillary, McHale and Mitchell; five great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew; and her beloved dog, Rascal. Mary-Jane’s family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of St. Joseph Hospital, especially the fifth floor nurses and cafeteria staff, and her church family of Messiah Baptist Church, Bangor.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Herman C. Frankland, pastor of Messiah Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday. The family invites folks to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service.
