FAIRFIELD, Maine — The body of a Skowhegan woman whose vehicle plunged into Martin Stream on Saturday was found early Thursday at Shawmut Dam along the Kennebec River.

A dam operator located the body of Cora Marley, 62, around 7 a.m. Thursday, Fairfield Police Chief John Emery said.

The operator discovered Marley’s body while doing a routine dam inspection after arriving at work, according to Emery. The dam is about four miles from where Martin Stream flows into the Kennebec River.

Emery said Fairfield police, the Maine Warden Service and State Police removed Marley’s body from the river and transported it to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Marley was heading from Waterville to Skowhegan on Route 201 Saturday when she lost control of her Pontiac Vibe and plunged into the stream.

  1. I hope the gentlemen that found Ms. Marley knows how grateful the family must be for his observant eyes. He’s probably done that inspection hundreds of times, and more than likely used extra care today. This  will result in some closure for the family and a proper funeral for this fine lady.

  2. What is up with the title of this article?? I would surely be offended if this was my mom!!! She didn’t DRIVE OFF THE BRIDGE…………obviously the car was out of control due to a possible  medical event. So sorry that the reporter was disrespectful in his title.

    1. You really need a life.

She was driving when the car went off the bridge. Nowhere does it say she intentionally drove off the bridge.

We already have far too much political correctness as it is.

  3. So sorry for this lady’s family :(  Glad that the man found her but sorry for him too…
