CUSHING, Maine — An 18-year-old man arrested by police on suspicion of entering another person’s home, along with two other people, and assaulting the occupant has been released and the district attorney’s office said no charge will be filed at this point.

James Tynan, 18 of Waldoboro was arrested on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal liability, according to Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison. He was taken to the Knox County Jail and bailed late Friday morning.

He was scheduled for an initial court appearance Friday afternoon in 6th District Court in Rockland but Assistant District Attorney Chris Fernald said he would not be filing charges against Tynan. He said there was insufficient evidence at this point for a charge but that charges could be filed later depending on the results of an ongoing investigation.

Zachariah Sawyer, 18, and Brandon Grubbs, 18, both of Waldoboro, are being sought for questioning in connection with the case, according to Dennison. Sawyer is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 165 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. Grubbs is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 160 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.

The occupant of the home awoke to find three men, whom he knew, had entered his home uninvited, according to an investigation by deputies Paul Pinkham and Nathaniel Jack. The men then punched the victim, according to the sheriff.

The suspects also reportedly destroyed some of the victim’s personal property, the sheriff said. Alcohol was involved and the dispute appears to have centered on a female, she said.

The call to the department came in shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information on the case to call the dispatch center at 594-5656.

    1.  and why do you assume these are friends?  These are thugs who should be locked up for what they did.  Let them ‘grow up’ behind bars for a month or so.  There is no excuse for this… none.

        1. So what if a girl lied.  Does that give these men justification to break, enter and assault?

  1. Hello boys,

Since there are three of you and my odds seem unfavorable,  I’d like to introduce you to MY two friends.  SMITH AND WESSON!

  2. People who comment should know the story before they post one. and these boys r not “thugs”  and SOME people like to change the story around.

    1. Did they or did they not break into a man’s home and assault him?  Seems “thuggish” to me!

        1. You’re right. I’m commenting on what I read. If the facts were misrepresented, then I apologize and so should the BDN.  We are supposedly innocent until proven guilty in this country.  If those men did not break the law, then the person who lied should be charged instead.

        2. I am sure the guy punched himself a busted up his own property, right? Give me a break. They are lucky it wasn’t much worse for them.

  3. 3 subjects entered the home. My shotgun holds 3 rounds. Would have worked out perfectly. And I don’t give a damn who lied. Break into my house you are going down.

  4. To everyone who is commenting. One of these boys is my son and he is NOT a thug or a criminal.  One of the other boys is my son’s best friend and he too is NOT a thug or a criminal.  This article alleged them of doing something and some of you aparently dont realize you can not believe everything you read or hear. People are innocent until proven guilty.
My son went to the police station on his own on Friday and spent two hours explaining what happened. Because of his truthfulness he nor the young man that was arrested are being charged in connection with this crime.
Unfortunately for them they were in the wrong place and now some individuals feel it is ok to threaten their lives, how does that not make you thugs? You dont even know these’s boys.  I have known them all their lives. Maybe as adults you should think before you speak.  I know I taught my son that and because of it he is honest and doesnt slander people when he doesnt know the facts!!  Signed a proud mother.
