AUGUSTA, Maine — Two of Maine’s top chefs will represent the state at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in Louisiana this summer.

In response to a challenge by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to appoint a chef to represent Maine, Gov. Paul LePage anointed Chef Melissa Bouchard and her assistant, Chef Clifford Pickett, as “Team Maine” for the competition.

Bouchard and Pickett will compete against other top-level professional chefs from around the country on Aug. 11 for the title of “King/Queen of American Seafood.”

The annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off pits up-and-coming chefs against recognized culinary greats from around the United States. Chefs are asked to create unique dishes with sustainable, domestic seafood that is native to their home state.

Both Maine chefs work at DiMillo’s on the Water in Portland.

  1. I would guess that DiMillo’s made one heck of a campaign contribution to the governors election.

    1. And what does politics have to do with this?  You Liberals are so hateful of everyone.

      1. Why the good governor chose not 1 but 2 chefs from this restaurant.  I’m sure the chefs are great but come on, somewhere in Maine there must be others of comparable skill.  That’s what politics has to do  with it!  You are right about one thing, I do indeed dislike LePage.  In fact I despise the man.  As a matter of fact I’m not too wild about the people who voted him into office either.

        1. There are good seafood chefs everywhere in Maine . I think Lepage has more important fish to fry than to waste any more time on this than he did. By the way George , I voted for him and would again !

        2. I believe the head Chef was the only on picked and she choose her assistant to go with her.  But I see your point.

  2. Has anyone eaten at DiMillo’s recently?…I think they rely on their floating charm to distract customers from the quality of their food….kind of like Hooter’s or Fenway Park.
