BANGOR – Liliane V. Philippon, 81, died unexpectedly May 18, 2012, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Trelon, Nord, France, the daughter of Victor and Claudine (Dorat) Dejardin.
She was raised and educated in the Bordeaux region. Liliane was proud of her French heritage. In her own words “I was born French and I will die French.” In 1957 she met Joseph Leo Philippon, an Air Force airman stationed in France. They married Sept. 25, 1958, and subsequently moved to Bangor where they raised four children. “Joe and Lil,” as they were affectionately known by friends and family, enjoyed 53 years of happy marriage. An excellent cook who kept a warm, welcoming home, Lil was beloved by all who knew her, especially her children’s friends and her co-workers at Country Kitchen, where she worked for 26 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, shopping at TJ Maxx and doting on her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Richard “Tony” and fiancee, Gail, Catherine and husband, Bernard Hope, Patrick and wife, Meg, and Daniel and wife, Sarah; as well as six grandchildren, Michael, Lucas, Hannah, Grace, Ellery and Abigail. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Serge and Francis.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service of remembrance will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 25. Interment will be immediately after the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment.
